Job Title: Personal Assistant

Hours: 8-10 hrs per week

Hourly rate: £11.50 per hour

Location: At home in LS18 and in the local community

Purpose of the job:

The family are seeking an outgoing, enthusiastic and flexible PA to support E to access school and further activities outside of the home. Ideally, the successful candidate will have some experience in working with children, but this is not essential. As long as you are passionate, light-hearted and have a good sense-of-humour this role is for you.

E is a 19 year old with a range of interests, including Youtubers and video games, particularly Minecraft. The PA is required to support E to access fun activities in the community outside of school, like visiting the Geek Rooms or even going for a walk in the park. We are therefore seeking a PA who may have similar interests to E.

One of the key roles of the PA would be to support E to grow in confidence when in the community and build his independence. E’s PA needs to be happy to join in with his energy, but spot signs of discomfort and guide E to a position of comfort. As E can present as non-verbal, the PA will need to build a strong connection with him to understand his body-language to spot these signs.

The PA will help E to get ready for school during a morning shift. This would include taking and dropping him off at school using your own vehicle. Therefore, a car driver is essential for this role; mileage will be reimbursed and Business Insurance is required.

Ideally the PA will have previous experience working with people with additional needs. However, any relevant experience will be considered if the skills can be applied to this role.

This is a great opportunity to share meaningful experiences with E, enhance your CV, and develop your skills for your future career. Further training available for the successful candidate.

Shifts:

This role is 10 hours per week. These hours are flexible and include time to do social activities together on an evening or weekend.

The employer is willing to engage in a conversation with candidates regarding their availability to ensure the shifts are agreeable for both parties. A degree of flexibility will be required non-term time.

Main Duties:

The personal assistant will be required to do the following tasks and may be asked to carry out other tasks of a similar nature. I will inform them of which tasks need carrying out on a particular day.

· Support to access school daily, i.e. encouraging E to access school· Engage E in a range of structured activities, be flexible and willing to get involved.· Provide companionship to E.· Communicate with E using verbal and non-verbal communication tools to continue support provided in school, i.e. use of cue cards.· Appropriately deal with instances of heightened sensitivity and anxiety, support in de-escalation.· Communicate regularly with the employer regarding the support for E.

Essential Requirements:

· An understanding and previous experience working with children.· Flexibility towards planned activities.· Patience and tolerance to E’s interests and habits.· Full clean driving licence and vehicle (mileage reimbursed)

Supervision:

My personal assistant will be directed by and accountable to me in all aspects of their work. They will always ask what is required and not make assumptions about any aspect of the assistance I need or how it should be carried out. The successful candidate will undergo a thorough induction, within which the employer will be present initially, to ensure the PA is the right fit for E.

The role is subject to a 3 month probationary period during which you will be closely supervised.

Pre-employment Checks:

Prior to starting work you will be subject of an Enhanced DBS and reference checks. You may also be asked to provide evidence of your right to work in the UK.
