Summary
The Legal Service Department at UHDB is a dynamic and supportive team and we are seeking an exceptional candidate to lead the service.
The ideal candidate will provide strategic leadership and direction to maximise learning and quality improvement. They will act as the Trust's legal expert, managing all aspects of the Legal Services Department, providing legal advice across a broad range of areas including clinical negligence, Coroner’s Inquests, employer’s and public liability, consent, Powers of Attorney and other healthcare law issues.

The post holder will ensure the provision of a dedicated legal service within the Trust, developing and expanding the service to meet the Trust’s changing strategic needs.
The post holder will be responsible for the research and development of precedent common law and legislation frameworks to apply to the unique and complex legal scenarios arising within one of the country’s largest and most diverse Acute Teaching Hospitals, that will best serve the Trust’s legal interests and protection.
The post holder will be responsible for the management of and professional lead for the Legal Services Department, developing the potential of staff and encouraging growth in respect of skills and professional competencies.
The post holder will provide expert, highly specialist legal advice to clinicians, senior managers and members of the Trust Board on a broad range of highly complex, confidential and sensitive legal matters, including the provision of general advice relating to healthcare matters, the application of legislation and regulation Trust wide.

The post holder will be accountable for fostering relationships, including consultation on proposals and service alterations, with external stakeholders including NHS Resolution(‘NHSR’), Coroners of several different jurisdictions, High Court and Court of Protection, Official Solicitor, Counsel, opposing law firms and Local Authority legal teams, influencing relevance policies with external stakeholders to protect the Trust’s interests.
