Summary
The National Spinal Injuries Centre is a world-renowned specialist national centre for people with spinal cord injury – a centre that’s life-changing for everyone who comes into contact with it and the birthplace of the Paralympic Games.
St Francis Ward provides 9 beds for children (1-18 years) with spinal cord injury (SCI) from across the UK and the opportunity for you to further develop your experience and skills within a unique, supportive and inspiring children’s unit delivering specialist rehabilitation care. You will work closely with colleagues based in the National Spinal Injuries Unit and the acute Paediatric Service to deliver holistic care to meet the needs of children with SCI and their families.

• Supervise the work of the nursing team, ensuring individual programmes of care are formulated according to patient needs and current research/guidelines.
• Ensure planned nursing care is delivered safely and effectively taking into account the views of the child and their parents / guardians.
• Ensures plans of care are updated as appropriate.
• Ensures arrangements for the admission, transfer and discharge of children are made safely and effectively in line with Trust policies.
• Advise on health promotion and the prevention of illness.
• Recognise situations that may be detrimental to the health and well-being of the individual and take appropriate action.
