Summary


We are looking for a full time Speciality Doctor working within the Ophthalmology Department at Queen Victoria Hospital, initially for a fixed term period but with a possibility of becoming permanent. This is an exciting role supporting 7 consultants and 6 fellows in a fast paced environment.

The role will predominately involve undertaking ward rounds, being responsible for liaising with the SOS nurse regarding acute patients and also accepting trauma patients referred in from other Trusts as well as carrying out independent cataract theatre lists. Other tasks will include undertaking oculoplastic minor operations in a clinic setting, YAG laser surgery in a clinic setting. Being responsible for organising and participating in the departmental teaching sessions, along with clinical governance meetings and bi-monthly audit meetings.

There will also, in time, be an opportunity to gain experience in more complex surgical procedures by attending consultant led theatre lists.

You will need to have sound clinical experience as well as experience of working in theatres and carrying out independent cataract lists. The duties will be varied depending upon the exigencies of the service. Opportunities for research are available and successful candidates will be encouraged to participate.
