The post holder is responsible for helping to ensure that the organisation meets its statutory and contractual obligations regarding domestic services, across the appropriate community services.

The post holder will have the day to day responsibility of supervising the community domestic service in their areas ensuring the delivery of a high quality, efficient, cost effective service which remains consistent with end user needs.

They will co-ordinate, motivate and communicate with their staff and sometimes with stakeholders in their localities.

They must be capable of working on their own initiative, have a high level practical and theoretical knowledge of the National Cleaning Standards (new addition) .

Reporting to the Deputy Portering & Domestic Services Manager, the post holder is responsible for helping to ensure that the organisation meets its statutory and contractual obligations regarding domestic services, across the appropriate community services.


The post holder will have the day-to-day operational responsibility of supervising the community domestic service in their area ensuring the delivery of a high quality, efficient, cost-effective service which remains consistent with end user needs.


They will co-ordinate, motivate and communicate with their staff and sometimes with stakeholders in their localities.


They must be capable of working on their own initiative, have a high level practical and theoretical knowledge of the National Cleaning Standards (new addition) and will be trained in BICS (British Institute) via in-house training.


Supervisory ability is necessary to examine and resolve a range of ad hoc daily problems. They will be the direct link to staff, visitors and patients and must be flexible to the needs of the service.


Car ownership and clean driving license is essential.

The post holder will:
• Ensure that quality, health, safety and hygiene standards are maintained in accordance with infection prevention and control regulations, including undertaking regular cleaning audits; instigating corrective measures where necessary and recommending changes / improvements where appropriate.
• Comply with all relevant Department of Health, Atlas and NHS policies, procedures and training on infection prevention and control and any other related legislation as appropriate and ensure .
that the required Infection Prevention Control guidance is adhered to by all domestic staff.
• Retain Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) records in each Cleaners Store.
• Actively supervise the day-to-day community domestic service and be responsible for managing any operational related issues that may occur, whilst also ensuring that all designated areas including clinical areas at various sites are cleaned regularly to NHSI Cleaning Standards.
• Line manages and motivates domestic staff to ensure that quality standards and Health, Safety and hygiene standards are maintained for their sites.
• Order, receive and control usage of all materials required, including raising orders via the appropriate software systems.
• Work evenings/weekends to support the domestic service and domestic staff on duty when required.
• Ensure that all shifts are staffed as appropriate and be available to cover any shift where no domestic staff are available.

Please Note: The post holder will be expected provide cover for staff shortages and to therefore

Undertake physical tasks, such as:
− continuous operation of equipment e.g. using a floor buffering machine or hoover and lifting or pushing equipment.
− Frequent manual handling e.g. moving stores and relocating to storerooms and carrying equipment and supplies upstairs where no lift is available.
− Frequent sitting or standing e.g. keyboard inputting, driving to several locations and daily use of domestic equipment.
• Work autonomously at times and ensure procedures are in place for loan working.
• Be required to travel throughout the surrounding district to visit sites and attend meetings.
• Transport any stock or equipment as required if portering are unavailable.
• Report any faults or defects to floors and to the building fabric particularly those constituting clinical risk or health hazard by ringing the Help Desk.
• Carry out and implement risk assessments with support is needed to ensure that safe working practices are adhered to.
• Datix - To inspect domestic machinery and record and report defects/ condition to the appropriate department and accidents/untoward incidents involving domestic staff in compliance with the Health and Safety at Work Act.
