Summary

This is a unique opportunity to make a difference to students seeking vocational skills. Working within the charitable sector you will have the opportunity to teach BTEC Level 1 Construction, AQA Awards and Engagement Construction Skills Courses to students aged 14 -19 in school.

SATRO is a regional, highly impactful educational charity working with young people from the ages of 8-19 in schools across Surrey and its bordering counties. We work with corporates and charitable funders to inspire a new generation of students in their interests, their pathways for the future and support to build the skills they will need.

You will have experience of the construction industry or other relevant industry as well as experience of teaching or training young people. This opportunity is open to those working in construction with training experience or those already working in the education sector as a Teaching Assistant or Technician who would like to grow their career in education. We offer Level 3 AET (previously PTTLS) training and support to staff without a teaching background.

Purpose of the Job:
SATRO is an educational charity running a fleet of 8 mobile classrooms, teaching construction skills to young people aged 14-19 in schools across Surrey, Hampshire, Berkshire, Sussex and West London Boroughs.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and personable individual who has a passion to inspire and enthuse young people to reach their full potential. We want someone who believes every young person has the potential to achieve and exceed their expectations. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced individual who has worked in the construction industry, to teach a recognised qualification and key skills to differing groups of students and young people, including those with special needs. An ability to accommodate differential learning is essential.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• To work with learners giving practical instruction (predominately joinery / plumbing / electrics) and sharing vocational experiences in construction skills.
• Ensure that the learners have an effective and enjoyable learning experience by providing high quality information, guidance and advice.
• Plan, review and deliver quality practical and theory based sessions giving comprehensive instructions to learners.
• Complete all portfolio paperwork in line with SATRO and BTEC/AQA policies and standards.
• Assess learners work and cross reference against these standards giving detailed verbal and written feedback.
• Monitor and record student attendance and progress.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Work flexibly across locations in Surrey, Hampshire, Berkshire, Sussex and West London.
• Attend training and maintain CPD in both construction and education.
• Undertake any other responsibilities and ad hoc duties as required by SATRO.
• Promote the principles of Equality and Diversity and ensure that the policy is fully applied at all times.
• Understand and adhere to all personal responsibilities under Health & Safety and
Safeguarding procedures, and ensure that the policies are adhered to at all times.
• Strictly adhere to all SATRO policies, processes and procedures and work to the values, vision and priorities of the Charity.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Essential
• A solid background and experience of working within the construction industry.
• Ability to deal effectively with and communicate clearly to people at all levels.
• Able to work unsupervised and manage work to meet targets and deadlines.
• A full clean driving licence.
• Candidates will be required to complete an enhanced DBS check.

Desirable
• Experience in education or training with young people.
• A teaching or training qualification or equivalent (we will support those without to gain a AET/PTLLS qualification).
• Good organisation and administrative skills.
