Summary

The Community Rehabilitation team provides a service to clients with psychosis and other mental health issues living in residential and supported accommodations across the borough of Enfield. The Occupational Therapist will work with service users living within these accommodations by providing assessments and interventions that support clients to achieve their goals and move towards living a more independent life.



The post holder will work as part of a multidisciplinary team, with professionals employed by the mental health trust, Local Authority, and private organizations e.g. supported accommodation providers.



This post will require working closely with service users, experts by experience, community services, voluntary sector organisations, and other external agencies (e.g. college, education providers, advocacy services) to support access/opportunities for work, education/leisure, self-care, and developing independent living skills.




1. To carry a caseload for which you have clinical responsibility
2. Using an evidence-based approach, assess the client’s needs, establish aims and objectives, and plan an Occupational Therapy treatment programme in consultation with members of the multidisciplinary teams, involving the client in decisions regarding appropriate interventions.
3. To carry out a range of standardised/non-standardised assessments and outcomes measures, e.g. MOHOST and recovery Star, AMPS following OT Pathway to provide a baseline for OT with clear treatment objectives and outcomes.
4. To provide both specific individual assessment and treatment when indicated, involving motivating and adapting sessions and approaches to allow full occupational participation.
5. To adapt activities and assessments to facilitate persons with cognitive difficulties, language difficulties, social skills deficits, and challenging behaviour, to work with interpreters where required
6. To work with teams to assess the suitability of accommodation and housing need to give OT feedback to MDT and other agencies as appropriate.
7. To plan, run, and evaluate groups using graded activities to achieve treatment aims
8. To maintain a flexible approach to modifying activities, according to the fluctuating clinical presentation of the service user.

The team is an integrated health and social care team that includes nursing, psychology, social workers, psychiatrists as well as a physical health lead and graduate mental health worker. The team works with service users who have complex and substantial needs, often dual diagnosis and coexisting conditions including physical health needs.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a growing occupational therapy team within a community rehabilitation team. The post holder will work with an occupational therapy-specific caseload to provide specialist assessment, treatment planning, bespoke individual and group interventions, and evaluation using a strengths-based, recovery-focused approach. Interventions will be time-limited with clear goals established with the service user and in conjunction with the supporting clinical team. The post holder will work alongside the senior occupational therapist to develop an understanding of occupational therapy within the team and the wider community as well as working on service development projects. Supervision will be given by the community rehabilitation team’s senior occupational therapist and there will be opportunities for joint working and group facilitation.

· Dip. COT or BSc OT

EXPERIENCE AND

KNOWLEDGE

· Working knowledge of the occupational therapy process

· Experience of group and individual occupational therapy interventions

· Experience of working in an MDT

· Experience of relating to people form a range of social and ethnic backgrounds

· Demonstrates professional approach, including boundary keeping, to relationships with staff and patients

· Demonstrates knowledge of mental health conditions including developmental disorders, neurological disorders, personality disorders, mood disorders and psychosis.

· Demonstrates knowledge of the Mental Health Act

· Knowledge of OT models of practice e.g MOHO

· Knowledge and experience of work with Recovery principles



· Post-graduate experience of working with people with mental health conditions relevant to the specialty of post

· Experience of using standardized assessments e.g. MOHOST

· Experience of carrying out functional assessments
