Summary

Senior Clinical Research Fellow in Neonatology 2 year post

This is an exciting opportunity to participate in clinical and translational research projects in Neonatology at St Mary's Hospital. Applications are invited for the role starting this September 2024 and lasting for one year in the first instance and extendable provided satisfactory progress.

St. Mary's Hospital houses the Neonatal department, which boasts 69 cots and serves over 10000 deliveries annually. As the tertiary referral centre for high-risk Obstetrics and Neonatology, St. Mary's is a vital resource for the community. MFT's Neonatal Managed Clinical Service (MCS) includes local neonatal units at Wythenshawe Hospital and North Manchester General Hospital.

This is a two-year position within the NICU MCS clinical research team. The selected candidate will carry out a research project with the goal of obtaining an MD degree from the University of Manchester, and there will be ample opportunities to get involved in our homegrown research projects. Additionally, they will participate in portfolio and non- portfolio studies related to NICU. Successful applicants may have the opportunity to apply for transition into a PhD program and, subject to the success of their work, apply for additional external funding awards. The involvement in the research work will be 50%, and the remaining 50% will be to work as a middle-grade doctor (Tier 2 rota) in a tertiary level 3 neonatal unit.

Applicants must possess a minimum of six months of previous experience in Neonates at the Tier 2 level, and a full MRCPCH or equivalent level is mandatory. While this post is not accredited for training purposes, it may be appropriate for a trainee seeking Out-of- Programme opportunities for research or experience. The trainee must secure approval for OOP(R)/OOP(E) from their Postgraduate Dean.
