Summary

We are seeking a statistician/epidemiologist to lead a research programme investigating the molecular pathogenesis of vasculitis including treatment outcomes, with a focus on germline genetics.

The grand challenge of this workstream is to aim towards glucocorticoid-free treatment reducing long-term multimorbidity burden and treatment complications. This will be delivered through identifying new therapeutic targets, improving the accuracy and interpretation of diagnostics for giant cell arteritis, including predicting both those who will respond to glucocorticoid therapy and those who will suffer side effects.

The National Institute of Health Research Biomedical Research Centre (NIHR Leeds BRC) is a partnership between the Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust (LTHT) the University of Leeds and the University of York. It is an international centre of excellence which exists to provide infrastructure to support translational research across: musculoskeletal disease (MSKD); cardiometabolic disease; surgical technologies; haematology; pathology; antimicrobial resistance. This post would work within the MSKD Vasculitis workstream, led by Professor Ann Morgan and Dr Mark Iles.

You will produce high quality research outputs and contribute to writing competitive grant funding applications in relation to vasculitis and genetic epidemiology. You will also have an opportunity to supervise postgraduate research students undertaking work in this area.

Applicants will have an MSc or other higher degree in epidemiology, statistics or a related analytical subject or equivalent experience of working in an applied health research or basic science environment. Knowledge and working experience of advanced statistical techniques in medical research are essential while experience of the analysis of germline genetic data would be beneficial.

You will be affiliated with the Leeds Institute of Cardiovascular and Metabolic Medicine based primarily in the Leeds Institute for Data Analytics on the main University of Leeds campus.
