Summary

National Highways have an excellent opportunity for a Senior Structures Engineer to join our team in the East region on a permanent basis. The Senior Structures Engineer will provide technical expertise in the Asset Management and maintenance of Highway structures assets. As a Structures Engineer, you will lead on the development of structures (Bridges and other structures) asset management documents such as management of substandard structures, management of post tensioned structures.

This role can be based from either Bedford, Cambridge or Ipswich.

Please note that you will be required to drive as part of your role and you will need to have a full clean driving license to be considered for this position.

What you’ll be leading on

Lead the development of feasibility studies for improvements and/or renewals, including the compiling and checking of relevant documents, evidence and options for value management, taking into account new techniques, materials, buildability, and costs.
Lead the development of structures (Bridges and other structures) asset management strategies and documents such as management of substandard structures, post-tensioned structures, half-joints, concrete deck hinges, scour, headroom, pier impact and parapets.
Development of AIP’s, structural reviews and assessments.
Develop technical briefs provided to external consultants/contractors for asset management and scheme development works and manage the delivery of those briefs.
Provide structures technical support in regards to third party / customer queries or to other National Highways asset areas such as Roads, Drainage, Technology etc.
Provide structure technical support in relation to reactive measure such as bridge strikes, parapet strikes including liaison with Service Delivery colleagues to make safe / enact repairs.

To be successful

Structural / Civil Engineer with appropriate experience or Incorporated Engineer working towards Chartered Engineer level.
Experience in Highway Structures management, inspection, assessment and design.
Working knowledge of Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB) standards, methods of working & Specification for Highway Works and Eurocodes.
Experience in highway construction and delivery methods.
Knowledge of Construction Design Management 2015 and associated duties.
