Summary

About the Employer

I am the employer and mother to my young son, My son has a diagnosis of Autism and learning difficulties. He is pre verbal but is able to communicate what he wants or likes through gesture or hand leading. He is currently being introduced to PEC cards and visual aids to support him with communication and prompts. My son will require support with personal care as he wears nappies.

My son likes routine and needs very basic language and instructions to help him understand what is expected of him, preparation for what he will be doing and managing situations of when an activity is coming to an end. He needs time and prompts to allow this to be understood, otherwise he can become upset or frustrated. My son is known to lash out with frustration, this tends to be more with family members or those closest to him, however may still occur when out and about with a PA.

He is very young and extremely vulnerable, so will require close supervision and support at all times.

He is unaware of risk to himself or others and is not aware of dangers.

My son is active and enjoys the outdoors. He is extremely inquisitive and likes to know how things work, so enjoys construction and play associated.

He enjoys most activities associated to his age, parks, play areas, being outdoors and trampoline parks. He enjoys doing puzzles etc:

My son can refuse to walk if he does not want to leave somewhere, so we have access to a buggy which can be used on outings to manage this.

We are seeking a PA to provide 8 hours during holiday times on a weekend, he has another PA who provides additional hours during term time and holidays, so a new PA will become part of his support network, allowing him the opportunity to access the community and activities, and allowing his father and I a break from our caring role.
