Applications are invited for a Band 8a Research Lead in the Radiotherapy Physics Unit (RPU) at Bristol Oncology and Haematology Centre.
This is an exciting new post providing leadership to our varied research initiatives, to encourage research and source funding opportunities. We are looking for an experienced Medical Physicist with a research background to join us in the Radiotherapy Physics Unit.
RPU also provides physics support to clinical trials and teaching on UWE and The Fellowship of the Royal College of Radiologists (FRCR) radiotherapy courses.
Radiotherapy in Bristol is provided by a professional and friendly multi-disciplinary team who are responsible for delivering a diverse and interesting range of treatment techniques. Bristol Cancer Institute is a specialist cancer centre delivering first class radiotherapy services to the population of the South West. The centre has 5 Elekta Versa HD linear accelerators with CBCT, 2 Philips Big Bore CT scanners, Gamma Knife, Varian HDR Brachytherapy and an expanding Molecular Radiotherapy service. We have recently commissioned SGRT (surface guided radiotherapy) system. We are well-known as a centre of clinical excellence and as such we have a proven track record of supporting and mentoring centres within the UK and beyond, providing peer to peer learning in the use of Clarity Ultrasound, Active Breathing Control, SABR, Gamma knife and Molecular radiotherapy.
The Radiotherapy Physics Unit (RPU) provides a clinical scientific service to Bristol Haematology and Oncology Centre (BHOC) to allow the provision of a radiotherapy service for patients. RPU is also involved in several research activities and is a beta test and reference site for a number of products.
The post holder will be the research lead for RPU, and as such is responsible for co-ordinating and providing leadership for RPU research activities. The post holder will support a research and innovation culture, sourcing funding opportunities and writing grant applications. They will foster links with University of Bristol and University of West of England and companies with an interest in the radiotherapy field.

• State Registration with HCPC as a Clinical Scientist specialising in radiotherapy physics.
• Proven background in radiotherapy research
• Experience of carrying out project/development work guided by professional best practice, able to work independently and show initiative.
• Sufficient experience and aptitude to work as an IRMER operator within a range of Radiotherapy Physics practices and procedures.
• Able to analyse and communicate highly complex information
