Summary
The Fellowship is a full-time research/placenta accreta network development post under the supervision of The Placenta Accreta Spectrum Lead and Dr Andrew Sharp, Senior Lecturer at the UoL. It includes a clinical component. Clinical supervision will be the responsibility of the RCOG tutors who will allocate a clinical educational supervisor.
The North-West Placenta Accreta Spectrum Disorder Service (PAS) is currently in the process of being established to provide diagnostic and MDT services for placenta accreta spectrum disorder cases across the Liverpool, Cheshire, Merseyside and Greater Manchester region. Diagnostic clinical expertise is provided by Mr Bode Williams and Dr Ben Choo from the Fetal Medicine Unit in conjunction with MRI services provided by the team in Sheffield. There is a monthly local PAS meeting as well as monthly NW regional PAS MDT. The LWH PAS team in the Liverpool Women’s Hospital provides expert management of cases of PAS diagnosed in the region with a full complement of the MDT including Gynaecology-Oncology, Obstetrics, Anaesthetics, Operating Theatres, Pathology services and Psychology. The LWH PAS team is actively involved in local and national research projects.
The research component of this post comprises research experience inapplied research in obstetrics,a research areain which Liverpool leads internationally.
This is a research post eligible for OOPR.
There are no planned day time fixed clinical sessions however, the candidate will be expected to participate in one day per week on delivery suite to maintain skills in a supervised, supportive environment. This equates to one full day every two weeks.

The candidate would be expected to participate in all PAS clinics at Liverpool Women’s Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. There is also the opportunity for early pregnancy scanning within the Gynaecology Emergency Department with a focus on the diagnosis and management of Caesarean scar pregnancies and early diagnosis of placenta accreta spectrum disorder.
The candidate is expected to actively participate in the PAS service by helping organise the PAS MDTs and help organize delivery planning with the wider team. On the day of the surgery the post-holder will be expected to attend delivery.
The successful candidate will join the full on call rota: ST3 -7 on call is currently a full shift on call on 2 in 22 rota, including 2 sets of 4 weekday nights and 2 sets of weekend nights every 22 weeks and 3 sets of daytime weekend duties in 22 weeks.
The candidate would also be expected to coordinate and attend surgical management of cases of PAS who are delivering in the Liverpool Women’s Hospital on the elective Caesarean Section lists. There is also the opportunity to attend sessions with Histopathology to gain experience in the diagnosis of PAS.
