Summary

POST SUMMARY: Applications are invited for a Foundation year 3 post in respiratory medicine at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, based at the Worcestershire Royal Hospital on the Acute Respiratory Unit. Applicants for a 12 month post starting in August 2024 or 6 month posts starting in August or February 2025 are welcome to apply. This is not a deanery post, however, educational supervision and content will be arranged by the Respiratory department to meet the training needs of the successful candidate. The successful candidates will be welcomed to join weekly departmental teaching sessions and Grand Rounds. In-house training will be provided for PACES/MRCP part II, and study leave will be available to help candidates prepare for the examinations. Key duties of the post are the medical care and management of inpatients on the Acute Respiratory unit working Monday Friday 8.30am to 5pm. The successful candidate will be encouraged to take regular agreed sessions for outpatient experience and audit/ quality improvement activities. The typical candidate should have completed foundation year 1-2 training and is suitable for those with an interest in a career in medical specialities and is excellent preparation for a medical career in the UK or abroad. This is a post based in the department of Respiratory Medicine at Worcester Royal Hospital. The successful applicant will work with a team of 2-3 FY1 and 3-4 CT/ IMT/ CF doctors in addition to 1 ward based STR, a physician associate and a team of nurse practitioners to deliver daily care to respiratory inpatients on a 31 bedded ward with an 8 bedded high care unit. There is a consultant of the week model with daily consultant led ward round and 2 board rounds each day. The FY3 doctor will participate in daily review of patients on the ward, assess new patients to the ward, request and follow up investigations, communicate with patients and their families and gain experience in pleural procedures, ultrasound and non- invasive ventilation. The FY3 doctor will be released to attend Respiratory or medical specialty clinics aiming at one session alternate weeks and will be offered a session for audit work and a shorter working day at the same frequency. Educational supervision will be provided within the department. Weekend and on-call duties are not a routine part of this post but may be available if desired on discussion with the department.
