ABOUT THE SERVICE

Beech Avenue service is a small homely residential care home where five individuals supported reside. The home is situated in a small rural town/ Egremont. Public transport is quite sparse especially at weekends so all staff need to have a driving license. The nearest train station will be Whitehaven or St Bees. The individuals supported in their home have a shared adapted van for accessing the local community and personal appointments, all staff are required to have a driving assessment for using the adapted van. Within Beech service we pride ourselves with a high standard of care, showing empathy and understanding at all times. The individuals we support have high complex needs and there is intensive training in place with e learning, face to face training and collaborative working with external professionals for inhouse service training. There is a high level of personal care and use of specialist equipment such as ceiling tracker hoists, shower beds, profile beds etc. and all staff complete regular moving and handling person specific training and are competency assessed. Staff coming into the service have an in-depth induction to meet the needs of the individuals supported in the service, as the service supports all females with a high level of personal care, female support is required to support and maintain the dignity and comfort of those supported. The service itself is very much a specialist service supporting with a host of health needs including all aspects of medication including rescue medication, personal care, continence management, peg feed administration, epilepsy. We pride ourselves in knowing the individuals supported very well, with non verbal communication it takes time to get to know the individuals' supported mannerisms, verbal cues, facial expressions. We work with a minimum of two staff on shift and the RCM is in service throughout the week, there is also an on-call system for back up and support out of hours.
