Summary

To work together with the cardiac dietetic team to provide an effective, flexible clinical dietetic service to Cardiology/Cardiothoracic in-patients and out-patients based at St Bartholomew’s Hospital. The job will provide a service, alongside the Senior Specialist & Specialist dietitians, to the Barts Heart Centre. The post holder will undertake research and audit on a regular basis to ensure that practice is evidence based.

This post is part of a wider dietetic team at St. Bartholomew’s Hospital of 18 Dietitians and 2 dietetic support workers forming part of the wider dietetic department across Barts Health NHS Trust

The post holder requires knowledge in nutritional support. This role involves providing a dietetic service to cardiac in-patient wards which includes:
• Performing specialist dietetic assessments of patients with diverse presentations and complex physical and psychological conditions to develop and deliver an individualised treatment plan, whilst maintaining accurate patient records
• Being responsible for your own caseload of patients
• Attending MDT meetings, board rounds and complex case reviews
• Promoting dietetics and the role of the dietitian in the cardiac MDT
The role is also responsible for providing a dietetic service to outpatients prior to their cardiothoracic surgery. There is the opportunity to upskill in critical care by completing critical care competencies with the support of senior dietitians. Which, once successfully completed, would see the post holder having a small HDU/ICU caseload if appropriate.
