Summary

Our core working hours are 8.30 to 5.30 pm Monday to Friday plus our weekend service 9am to 4pm on Saturdays and 10am to 4pm on Sundays. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in the department’s 1 in 6 weekend working rota.

You will be a professionally qualified Pharmacy Technician holding either the BTEC or NVQ3 in Pharmaceutical Services; and registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council.

We have an exciting and rare opportunity to join our High Cost Drug and Homecare Pharmacy team.

You will be part of our small, but important and essential pharmacy team. We provide a high standard of service to the Trust, caring for our patients who receive medication via homecare services, and those who receive high cost drugs as in-patients.

Are you a qualified Pharmacy Technician? A fan of spreadsheets and databases?

Are you looking for a new challenge and to develop your skills and experience?

If so, this is the job for you: working in our high cost drug and homecare team, dealing with prescriptions and homecare companies.

For further information please contact Kris Jones – Chief Pharmacy Technician High Cost Drugs, or Alice Donaghy, Pharmacist.

You should enjoy working flexibly in a team, but must also be capable of working independently and working to strict deadlines. You must also be accurate, numerate, highly organised, and possess good communication skills.

Your main role will be to maintain the smooth running of our increasing number of patients receiving high cost drugs at home, via 3rdparty homecare companies. You will liaise with medical and nursing teams across many specialties, to co-ordinate repeat prescriptions. You will also answer queries from homecare companies regarding queries on these prescriptions when they arise. You will also assist the clinical teams switch high cost drugs to biosimilar and generic equivalents.

Another part of the role will be helping to manage Immunoglobin usage within the Trust and across the Kent and Medway region. This includes liaising with multidisciplinary teams to ensure that national and Trust immunoglobulin databases are maintained, and that the relevant national and internal forms are completed correctly.

Computer experience would be an advantage, though not essential, with regards to Excel and Word. Training will be provided in these areas as well as the use of our Pharmacy computer dispensing system JAC/Wellsky. There will also be a level of weekly dispensary commitment where you could work towards your checking qualification, if you do not already possess this. Opportunities may alternatively be available for ward medicines management duties, if you prefer a more clinical option.
