Interim PT Tree Officer - Planning & Development

Pay Rate: Up £20.22 per hour PAYE depending on experience

Hours per week: 15 Wednesday and Thursday 9am to 4.15pm

Role Length: This opening assignment is for 6 months

City: Coalville, Leicestershire

Main duties of the role are to deal with and progress TCA and TPO applications from start to end, including writing up the officer report and drafting any conditions for agreement.

The role will also require individuals to provide the Planning Officers with advice on tree matters and landscaping where they relate to planning application.

Key Receptibilities:

Process applications for trees in Conservation Areas and for works to trees with
Review the Council’s Tree Preservation Order designations.
Provide landscaping and tree comments for planning applications.
Represent the Council on tree and landscaping related matters when required at planning appeals and to give evidence at Hearings, Public Inquiries and in the Magistrates’ Court.
Attend the Council’s Planning Committee meetings, public meetings and liaison committee meetings including meetings outside normal office hours as may be required.
Advise members of the public on tree related matters and to provide pre-application advice.

Qualifications:

GCSE’s grade C/4 or above in Mathematics and English or equivalent qualification / experience.



Skills & Experience:

Ability to effectively deal with the public face to face and demonstrate effective influencing and negotiation skills.
Ability to present applications clearly to a Planning Committee and to deal with planning appeals, either written representations or hearings.
Demonstrable experience of dealing with applications relation to TPO and trees in conservation area applications.
Ability to assess trees to decide if they are worthy of protection through the TPO process.
Demonstrable experience of the TPO legislation and process.
Strong IT skills including Microsoft packages or equivalent (e.g. G Suite).
