Enhanced DBS required for this role

Condensed hours can be considered, but candidates must still be able to commit to full time 5 days during their week on duty

A Social Worker is required to join the DAAT Team. Duty and assessment team is the frontline, single point of contact for all incoming safeguarding concerns relating to young people within the catchment area. Reports will initially come into the MASH service, and then be passed on to DAAT. This sector consists of 6 teams of approximately 8-10 staff each, with every team consisting of a Team Manager, Advanced Practitioner, Social Workers, Newly Qualified Social Workers, and Family Support Workers. At least 2 years DAAT experience is required for this role.

As far as service expectations go, CIN cases are expected to be visited within 5 days, whereas CP cases are expected to be visited within 24 hours, or same day if possible, and the service moves at pace to ensure every child is seen promptly. DAAT is a countywide service, covering all areas of Northamptonshire. The team hopes to support candidates long term to have their ‘allocated area’ to work in, meaning they will only cover cases within a given geographical area (e.g. – Daventry/Northampton Central/Corby).

Key responsibilities:

The team operates on a 6-week duty cycle, with candidates needing to be in office for a FULL week during their duty week, and to be local during visit time. Aside from the on-site duty activity required during their allocated week, candidates can work remotely for the other 4 weeks.
Caseloads are capped off at 35, with cases currently sitting at around 25-30. Workloads are rearranged when needed to compensate, and it is worth noting that a lot of families will have higher number of children, so a social worker may only be working with around 5 families at a time.
Carry out Initial, Core and other specialised assessments as per national guidelines and within prescribed timescales in order to formulate support plans for service users and coordinate their implementation or refer the case to the appropriate service area for support to child/family.
Manage cases varying in complexity, organise packages of support to service users, assess levels of risk to their health and wellbeing and, in conjunction with them and their families /carers, monitor and review their situations so that support can be adjusted as appropriate to their needs.
Work directly with family members providing advice and guidance. Work to empower service users, promote their participation in planning and evaluation of services to increase their levels of self-sufficiency, competence and to facilitate independence from social service assistance.
Liaise with and take a professional lead in involving appropriate staff and agencies and cases and arrange for contact as necessary to meet the needs of service users and within the remit of the County Council. Take initiative in establishing resource, for instance, group work programmes and specialist counselling to meet the needs of service users.
Attend and participate in multidisciplinary teams and meetings, planning reviews with colleagues and relevant professional staff to assist and analyse the needs of service users and to plan care programmes in accordance with those needs.
Ensure all information and reports relevant to work carried out is recorded, updated and completed in an efficient and timely manner and according to Directorate/legislative policies and procedures so that decisions made and acted upon are fully evidenced and provide sufficiently for audit, court or any other legitimate purpose.
Give written/verbal evidence in court/adoption/fostering panels when required to do so, carry out all necessary planning and assessments related to proceedings in conjunction with relevant professionals, and provide and deliver evidence to support decisions and recommendations made by social services to safeguard children at risk.
