Band 6 Occupational Therapist Surgery Team Manchester Royal Infirmary
Job Overview:
Come and join us at Manchester Royal Infirmary. We are welcoming a motivated Occupational Therapist to join the Surgery Team and develop their experience of acute hospital care. The Surgery Team is a multi professional team consisting of Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists and Rehabilitation Assistants and provides therapy to the cardiac and general/elective surgery wards, including the respective intensive care and high dependency units.
You will have the opportunity to develop skills within the following areas including; intensive care units, the surgical and cardiac wards and cardiac rehabilitation, all supported by our Senior Specialist Occupational Therapists.
This role requires that you work closely with and support your Physiotherapy colleagues, your ability to promote inter professional working and uphold our philosophy of team work is critical.
The Allied Health Professions Directorate is a dynamic and forward thinking team of dedicated therapists who actively engage in teaching. Training and ongoing continual professional development, with opportunities for further education and personal development with regular appraisals, personal learning objectives and supervision from the Senior Specialist Occupational Therapists will form part of your support and development in your role within the team and the wider AHP department.
You’ll monitor & review occupational therapy care plans against outcome measures & adjust care plans to facilitate achievement of goals.
With strong organisational, planning & prioritisation skills, you’ll maintain accurate & comprehensive records of assessment & treatment in line with RCOT standards & local policy.
You’ll effectively assess patients, identifying their problems & needs, ensuring medical, psychological, social, environmental & cultural factors are taken in to account.
You’ll enjoy working with patients, many who have complex needs and demonstrate practical skills of assessment, goal setting, progressing patients to achieve their individual goals and facilitating the most appropriate discharge pathways.
As a problem solver, with well-developed concentration & analytical skills, utilising examination & assessment findings to competently plan & carry out realistic programmes of treatment from a range of therapeutic options appropriate to each patient using evidence-based practice
What’s more, with a flexible attitude & the ability to adapt you’ll coordinate and monitor the activity and caseload demands of yourself and those you supervise.
You’ll maintain a calm & professional approach to all duties participating in weekend rota.
Finally , it goes without saying, as a naturally empathetic individual with excellent communication & interpersonal skills, you’ll build rapport & demonstrate compassion towards patients & carers and providing effective advice.
