Top of Form Job description Specialist in Special Care Dentistry, Band C Registration Registration with General Dental Council as Specialist in Special Care Dentistry or be within 6 months of successful completion of Specialist Training (CCST) at interview Hold an NHS performer number or meet requirements to be on NHS performer list in England. Hold professional indemnity at an appropriate level of cover. Clinical Provide a full range of high-quality dental care for adults whose complex needs and/or disabilities in a primary care setting. PCDS provides shared care and ongoing care for people whose additional needs prevent them from accessing treatment through from general dental practice (level 2 and 3 complexity patients). Provide treatment for patients under intravenous, transmucosal and inhalation sedation. Provide treatment for patients under General Anaesthetic in an acute hospital setting, including designated dental lists and lists shared jointly with medical colleagues. Provide preventive care and advice to individual patients and their carers. Provide professional advice and support to other health and social care workers and colleagues. Keep comprehensive and accurate records. Undertake administration associated with these duties including completion of appropriate NHS forms and referrals. Liaise with other dental care providers including within general dental service and hospital services to support patient care. Liaise with health and social care professionals to co-ordinate patient care. Triage and management of Special Care Dentistry referrals including the assessment, treatment and delegation of care and provision of advice regarding dental care. Support the service provision of urgent care dentistry as necessary. Provide services on more than one site as dictated by service requirements. Teaching and Training Support other clinicians within PCDS in provision of special care dentistry. Support the clinical teaching and supervision of speciality registrar in Special Care Dentistry. Participate in PCDS teaching and training programme of medical and dental students. Managerial Involvement in Band B special care dentists appraisals. Participate in clinical audit, peer review and any other clinical governance requirements. Represent the service at meetings within the organisation and externally related to the care of special care dentistry patients. Assist the management team in the planning and development of a comprehensive dental service for vulnerable adults. Work alongside the Clinical Lead and other Specialist in Special Care Dentistry to develop the special care dentistry service within PCDS and the wider southwest. Be a member of the southwest Special Care Dentistry MCN CPD Participate in mandatory training, core CPD, Intermediate Life Support and medical emergency training at regular intervals. Undertake professional development relevant to the requirements of the service and GDC registration. Maintain a safe working environment complying with the requirements of the Health and Safety at Work act, CQC and the policies of LSW. Conditions of service Dentists are employed by PCDS in accordance with the Terms and Conditions of Service of the Salaried Primary Dental Care Services (England) and are required to undertake appraisal and personal development. PCDS supports continuing professional development through the indicative training budget and study leave. This post involves working with vulnerable adults and will require an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.
