Summary

Prisoner Custody Officers (PCOs) are key in the effective running of the prison and working as a Prison Custody Officer, you would get involved in making sure the prison is safe and secure as well as assisting prisoner’s reform. we are looking for people who can fit naturally into this role.

You would also play a key role in giving structure and routine. You would be dealing with a wide variety of people as well as following policies and procedures in line with training and regulations.

SOME DUTIES OF A PRISON CUSTODY OFFICER INCLUDE:
• Ensuring the prison is safe and secure at all times, ensuring compliance with safe working procedures
• Ensuring all residents are accounted for each day - checking on their wellbeing as well as their presence
• Making sure residents attend work, education or other activities as required
• Securing residents in their rooms.
• Searching residents, rooms, and premises, confiscating prohibited items, and completing all relevant paperwork
• Helping residents to address offending behaviour whilst reinforcing positive behaviour
• Acting as a role model, demonstrating positive behaviours, and always behaving in line with our company values
• Supporting and protecting residents who are experiencing difficulties
• Contributing to the control of incidents and emergencies when required
• Maintaining residents records, documentation, and reports
• Escorting residents to hospital appointments and other locations

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

The ideal candidate would have:
• A checkable personal history including periods of education, employment, travel, and unemployment
• Ability to build trust with others and who are trustworthy, objective, and consistent in their approach
• Ability to keep calm under pressure
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, connecting with people from different backgrounds
• Ability to closely follow processes and procedures
• Attention to detail and alert to any changes that may indicate an increased risk or unusual situation

Your initial training lasts for 11 weeks, Initial Training Course (ITC) where you will receive comprehensive training, some of which will include: - Control & Restraint, First Aid at work, Interpersonal skills, and Health & Safety Human rights.

Fully supported by training manager and staff within the facility.
