Applications are invited for the post of Clinical Fellow Higher (ST6+) in Neonatal Medicine and PaNDR (Neonatal Transport) to commence for 12 months in the first instance with the possibility of extension.

This post would be suitable for either:

1. ST6+ paediatric trainees looking to gain experience in the acute stabilisation and transfer of sick neonates, who are looking to develop management and logistical decision making skills with the opportunity to act up as a consultant.

2. A Clinical Fellow not in the UK training system with good experience in neonatal medicine but wishing to gain further experience in neonatal transport and tertiary neonatology. Clinical fellows will be offered support to progress in their chosen career path including; application into the UK training system or with the CSER application.

This post has the opportunity of working in our large tertiary neonatal intensive care unit and in Neonatal PaNDR- (Paediatric and Neonatal Decision Support and Retrieval Service) for the East of England.

This post is particularly suited to those wishing to gain experience at middle grade level in a centre of excellence with more detailed information in the attached Job Description.

In addition to the clinical experience gained, this post is ideal for those wishing to develop their skills in prioritisation and trouble-shooting and are suitable for those already in possession of CCT.

Applicants need to demonstrate an interest in Neonatology with a good level of procedural skills.

Full Registration and a Licence to Practice with the General Medical Council at time of application is required.

The applicant must have demonstrable skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking in English that enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues, as set out in the GMC’s Good Medical Practice (2013). Non-UK applicants must possess the IELTS/OET exam before obtaining a GMC licence to practice.

The Neonatal service offers the full range of Neonatal intensive care facilities including neonatal surgery, Neonatal Neurosurgery and Neonatal neurocritical care. There are approximately 6000 deliveries per year, many of these are ‘high risk deliveries’ referred to the tertiary fetal medicine service in the Rosie Hospital.

The neonatal unit has 40 cots, 26 intensive and high dependency care and 12 special care cots.

PaNDR completes over 1200 neonatal transfers per year with over 600 emergency transfers and receives referrals from the 17 hospitals across the East of England and beyond. We are one of the busiest teams in the UK. With Consultant support you will be trained to transfer sick medical and surgical newborns.

This post offers training and experience identical to those of level 3 Specialty Trainees. You will have the opportunity to join in the wide range of educational and training opportunities within NICU and in Neonatal Transport which match those of recognised training posts.
