About the business unit 

The Advisory and Programme Delivery (APD) unit delivers management services in all the sectors that Mott MacDonald operate in the Built Environment, Defence, Energy, Water, Transportation and, Education, Health and Care. 

The Unit delivers services to projects ranging in scale and complexity up to £20bn, through the technical disciplines of Programme Management, Project Management, Project Controls, Scheduling, Cost Management, Estimating, Infrastructure Finance, Management Consulting, Digital Consulting and Education, Health and Care Management.

Overview of role

The Mott MacDonald Quality Team provide direct quality management, assurance, governance, and audit support to our Project/Sector teams working on major projects across the UK in Rail, Highways, Ports, Aviation, Maritime, Defence, Energy, the Built Environment, Social Infrastructure and Water Infrastructure & Environment.

We are looking to recruit suitably qualified and experienced Senior Associate Quality Managers to work with project teams on these projects across the UK.
Mott MacDonald operate an Agile Working Policy with employees encouraged to work 2-days per week from their base office. As our roles are client facing, you may be required to regularly attend a client/JV or Alliance base office or site attendance in line with the specific project programme/ schedule. This will usually be up to a 60/40 split between site and working from home in any week (e.g., 3 days on site/2 days home working), though this is dependent upon the client’s requirements, pace of delivery for projects and in consultation with the Project Team to ensure quality advice and support is available to the project.
Candidates will join an existing portfolio team in line with their sector experience; we support the development of the Quality Team through encouraging and supporting individuals gain experience of applying their skills and knowledge to different sectors.

A Senior Associate Quality Manager may carry out delivery of the quality role individually or as the Project Quality Lead supported by additional members of the Quality Team as identified by the project scope and contract quality commitments/requirements.

What you will contribute to the Quality Team:
On complex projects act as the Project Quality Lead In line with the project scope and contract quality deliverables/commitments:



- Lead/develop business improvement programmes & project management their effective delivery in line with experience and knowledge and project job role.
- At a strategic project level provide clear and effective advice, guidance, and support to the project senior leadership in relation to the application of quality management, assurance and governance to the project. Where the sole appointment to a project, provide this support across the project delivery team.
- Lead/develop, implement, and monitor the effectiveness of an integrated management system in line with ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, ISO 45001:2018 & ISO 44001 as required by the project/contract quality requirements/commitments and relevant legal and other requirements.
- Provide oversight/carry out audits as identified and provide written reports on the findings to promote continued improvement and support lessons learnt workshops.
- Maintain strong engagement internally with the leads for PMO, Safety, Sustainability & Risk (as appointed to the project) to demonstrate One Mott MacDonald to the client and/or Alliance/ Joint Venture partners.
- Provide technical review and sign off/produce the Project Quality Management Plan (QMP), manage its implementation and monitor its effectiveness against project/contract quality requirements/commitments and relevant legal and other requirements.
- Provide technical review and sign off/produce an Assurance Management Plan (AMP), manage its implementation, and monitor its effectiveness against project/contract quality requirements/commitments and relevant legal and other requirements.
- Oversight of/develop & coordinate delivery of a Risk Based Assurance Programme, manage the outputs from the assurance activities and work with the business to deliver any findings to completion.
- Deliver robust Management Information as appropriate to demonstrate performance of the IMS, including identifying good practices, opportunities for improvement and nonconformities.
- Maintain robust engagement with alliance partner parent company representatives to provide assurance that their risk is being effectively managed.
- Promote collaborative working across the project, alliance/JV partners, client, supply chain and other interested parties.
- Where appointed as the Project Quality Lead, act as the point of contact for interfacing and coordination of the quality service with the wider Project Team, Alliance/JV partners external regulators.
- Where appointed as the Project Quality Lead, act as the point of contact for external/regulator quality assurance audits on the project.
- Other project, developmental or networking activities in line with experience and qualifications.


Candidate Specification


- Chartered member of the CQI.
- Recognised quality management/assurance qualifications, e.g., enrolment/completion & attainment of CQI Professional grade courses, Degree or equivalent.
- Recognised Lead Auditor Registration e.g., IRCA, IEMA or equivalent.
- Demonstrate a leadership role in the application of ISO 9001:2015 and sector specific management standards/ guides in a project/sector delivery role.
- Led the design, implementation & management of integrated management systems for complex projects in one or more sectors.
- Experience of a quality delivery role in an engineering / construction environment in a major project’s capacity.
- Experience of technical authoring in line with current knowledge and experience.
- Experience of project managing and delivering business improvement programmes on complex projects.
- Experienced in conducting investigations and producing technically accurate reports.


Preferred, but not required


- Experience of implementing/auditing to other ISO Management Standards, e.g., ISO 14001, ISO 45001, ISO 44001.
- Additional professional memberships, e.g., IOSH, IEMA, Institute of Collaborative Working
- Experience of rail industry advantageous.
- Experience of highways projects advantageous.
- Experience of Defence projects advantageous – roles will require Security Clearance.
- Experience of Energy projects advantageous – some roles will require Security Clearance.
- Experience with using quality tools & techniques.
- Experience of working within a joint venture / alliance is advantageous.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
