Summary
Ward 23 is an acute, fast paced environment compromising of 33 beds, with patients varying from tracheostomies, laryngectomies and non invasive ventatilation requiring acute interventions/management.
We provide holistic care, to the acutely unwell and all patients with chronic respiratory conditions. The ward treats a wide range of thoracic conditions including lung cancer, asthma, COPD, TB, type 1 and type 2 respiratory failure, pleural effusions, pneumothorax, Tracheostomies and PE’S .
Support will be given at a clinical level by a senior nurse, and from a wider organisational structure
Respiratory nursing gives you acute dynamic skills which are transferable.

We are looking for candidates who are keen to develop their skills in cannulation, venepuncture, blood gases, blood cultures, covad dressings and audits which are completed daily and weekly. The respiratory unit offers a supportive and learning environment which endeavours to constantly develop the service, in order that our patients can receive the highest quality and most up to date care. The Unit welcomes and will support any new member of staff and you must possess a caring, compassionate and positive manner and have excellent communication skills.
The successful candidate will be expected to rotate from day to night duty.

Clinical Responsibilities
▪ To assist the qualified nursing staff in maintaining patient standards of care
▪ To work under the supervision of a qualified nurse within the scope of practice
completing accurately paperwork to a set standard once trained/educated and competent
▪ Undertake cannulation and venepuncture as required in order to improve patient pathway
To undertake and evaluate patient observations of blood pressure, pulse and temperature and other tasks as required, to assist in the patient recovery stage and see them through to discharge.
▪ Know own limitations and report any lack of knowledge/training to Senior Nurse Educator/Trainer and assessor.
