Summary


The Trust (MFT) Fellow postis a 6 month fixed-term post appointed by MFT for a UK-based or overseas candidate.

The appointee will join a team of oncoplastic breast surgeons in one of the busiest breast services in the UK based at the Nightingale Breast Screening Centre, Wythenshawe Hospital and the Christie Hospital Cancer Centre.

The Nightingale Centre which services Greater Manchester is one of 4 national training centres for breast screening in England and is one of the largest screening units in Europe. It is also one of the accredited centres for the national oncoplastic training fellowship. The multi-disciplinary team includes 14 consultant surgeons, 5 consultant plastic surgeons with a breast interest, 10 breast radiologists, 6 pathologists, 4 medical oncologists and 2 clinical oncologists. In-patient surgery is carried out at Wythenshawe Hospital, where there are close links with the Department of Plastic surgery. The team has a strong academic record, with 2 of our breast surgeons holding University appointments and 2 Professorial appointments. The Centre hosts the largest Family History Clinic in the UK, including a further 2 Professorial appointments and the UK’s only chair in preventative oncology.

The post holder will be exclusively working for the breast surgery department and will not have any out of hours on call commitments. The successful applicant is expected to function at a Fy2 / CT1 level and is ideal for those doctors who has completed the fy2 training and has not received a placement yet for 2023. It is also suitable for those doctors who want to gain entry into the NHS after a career break and for international medical graduates. The successful candidate will gain experience in managing the daily ward work and is expected to attend the ward rounds with the registrars and consultants. They are expected to assist in surgery and gain experience in managing breast abscess / mastitis, clerking and preparing the patients for theatre as well as post-operative management. The post holder will have the ability and consultant support to carry out clinical research and audit. There is a day-time 0800-1700 on call rota commitment for breast only urgent care- Monday to Friday.

The list is indicative of the workload however there will be flexibility in this arrangement.There is no out of hours on call commitment with this post.

Remuneration will be at the foundation level in accordance with the terms and conditions of the service. Annual leave entitlement is 28 days per annum and study leave is granted on an application basis. The post is for 6 months.
