Summary

Oakwood Climbing Centre
Assistant Climbing Centre Manager (Maternity Cover)
Fixed term contract, approximately 7 months, starting mid April/early May 2024

We are looking for an enthusiastic and trustworthy individual who has experience in the climbing industry.

Responsibilities
• Line manage some permanent and casual members of staff. Ensuring they feel supported, developed and process HR related matters with support from HR Department. Scheduling of these staff will also be required.
• Ensuring that all staff operate in line with the Centre Ethos.
• Play a key part in driving bookings and sales, thinking innovatively about new ways we can gain new business.
• Deputise in the Centre Manager’s absence – chair meetings, represent at external events.
• Support the Centre Manager in day-to-day running of the Centre.
• Support the Centre Manager in reviewing financial reports and making improvements to the centre so it remains financially profitable.
• Making sure operations are running in a safe and correct way.
• Resolving issues - staff or customer related.
• Providing an open dialogue with centre management and have an active participation in improving standards of the centre.
• Arrange and liaise with contractors, under the guide of the centre manager, when the above cannot be resolved in house.
• Support the centre in planning, running and executing events.
• Personal management development.

Qualifications and Experience
1. Proven experience in the climbing industry - Essential
2. Coaching qualification and experience - Desirable
3. An enthusiastic climber - Desirable
4. Management qualifications and experience - Desirable

What we need from you
1. Committed to set regular shift patterns as determined by the Climbing Centre Manager and Scheduling Manager
2. Be willing to work with the Outdoor Activities Manager when required on outdoor activity sessions.
3. The ability to resolve conflict or customer complaints.
4. Organise the smooth and safe running of the Centre with a proactive mindset.
5. To be able to work closely and effectively with the centre management in all areas.
6. The role requires an understanding of Oakwood’s Christian ethos and a willingness to work within an environment that seeks to promote that ethos.
