Summary

***36 Hours a week***

To protect consumers and businesses by ensuring a safe and fair trading environment.

To provide a customer focussed service while handling service requests, providing business advice including ‘primary authority’ partnerships to achieve compliance, conducting inspections and investigations using the full range of powers and ensuring both Council and Service objectives are achieved.

1.Provide service users and stakeholders with comprehensive advice, guidance and information on all aspects of the team’s service delivery as well as any relevant wider cross cutting council services.

2.To respond to complaints about consumer safety, counterfeit goods, product labelling, weights and measures and under-age sales

3.To undertake risk analysis and risk-based inspections and searches of commercial premises subject to weights & measures legislation and to deal appropriately with non-compliance

4.To make test purchases, take samples and carry out screen tests within established guidelines.

5.Deliver through advising, inspections, monitoring; surveillance; verification; audit; and sampling the team service plans.

6.To demonstrate enforcement skills and competencies that reflects the responsibilities of the team including the carry out of routine and complex inspections, investigating complaints and carrying out enforcement action such as seizures, serving notices and obtaining warrants.

7.Participate in publicity campaigns, customer service improvement plans and joint initiatives across Council services and with other agencies as directed.

8.Effectively manage your personal case load including complex enforcement cases.

9.To act as a resource of experience, knowledge and demonstrate expert level functional and technical competencies in one or more of the following project areas: Age Restricted Sales, Product Safety (inc Fireworks & Explosives), Door Step Crime, Intellectual Property, Illicit Tobacco and Alcohol.

10.To source appropriate test houses, experts, commission reports and witness statements for the progression of complex investigations
