Summary

Join us as a Legal Counsel

  • This is an excellent opportunity to join us as a Legal Counsel in the Unsecured Lending, FH&S (Financial Health & Support) and CCA COE (Consumer Credit Act Centre of Excellence) Retail Legal Team
  • You’ll deliver legal strategy and provide expert, accurate and cost-effective legal advice as part of our dual location and dynamic team.
  • Your role will sit within our Retail Banking business area, but you will also advise on personal unsecured lending originating from the Wealth and Premier business areas and the wider work of the FH&S business
  • We're offering this role for a period of 12 months

What you'll do

We’re looking for a Legal Counsel to work across the team, supporting our Retail Banking, Wealth and FH&S business areas. You’ll work closely with stakeholders and legal colleagues to ensure the timely, effective and efficient delivery of all issues, projects and initiatives.

Additionally, you’ll be:

  • Making sure that legal advice is readily understandable to non-lawyers, delivered within relevant timescales, and manages and minimises legal risks
  • Delivering continuous improvement in operating practices and processes, including identifying efficiencies, improvements and opportunities to reduce costs
  • Working across Retail Legal and the CCA COE on cross team programmes and projects
  • Advising with colleagues from other support functions, for example Risk and Conduct

The skills you'll need

To be successful in this role you'll need experience of providing legal and commercial advice in-house, or in a leading UK law firm. We’ll expect you to have an insight of general banking law and practice, and the financial services industry as well as experience advising on legal issues associated with consumer lending. We are looking for a self-starter, dedicated to upskilling and enthusiastic about working across a regulated lending team.

You’ll also need:

  • Knowledge of the retail banking business activities, the commercial environment within which it operates and associated legal issues.
  • The appetite to keep up to date with legal and industry developments and share relevant legal and market developments across multiple media, to varied audiences
  • To be committed to establishing strong relationships across the bank and providing excellent support to stakeholders
