The Bristol Haematology and Oncology Centre (BHOC) Day unit delivers a wide range of Cancer treatments within our dynamic nurse led service.We care for and deliver treatments to patients with solid tumours and haematological disorders. The Senior Health Care Support Worker is responsible for providing care and therapy to patients, supporting the nursing staff in delivering hands on care to patients undergoing this wide range of treatments. Whilst you will need to be an experienced nursing assistant, full training is provided in specialist skills such as PICC line care and phlebotomy.

Our Senior Healthcare Support Workers also assist with co-ordination in the unit and planning ahead for the following day. This element role requires basic IT skills, problem-solving and liaising with other members of the multidisciplinary team.

You will need to have excellent organisational skills, whilst also communicating effectively with patients and the wider team of nurses, pharmacists and administrative staff.

This is post will require the post holder to rotate between a Clinical and Co-ordination role with shift patterns 8am -6pm (at CDU, BHOC) and 08:30-16:30 (at Satellite sites at South Bristol Community Hospital and/or Concorde Medical Centre) over 4 shifts/ week, Mon to Fri and some Bank Holidays. The Senior Healthcare Support Worker is a member of the direct care team who supports practitioners to meet patient needs.

Full-time & part-time will be considered.

A Senior Healthcare Support Worker will be expected to undertake a range of duties under the direction of and will be required to report back on those delegated duties to a Registered Nurse.

Practice safe standards or care following UH Bristol and Weston guidelines and policies and within the scope of the Senior Healthcare Support Worker role.

Participate in patient assessment (under the direction of and after appropriate delegation from the Registered Nurse), to deliver high standards of care.

Practice role and area specific competencies as identified by the Healthcare Support Worker and Competency Framework and clinical ward/area, such as PICC line care, phlebotomy, scalp cooling.

Follow individual patient care plans, and report any changes immediately to the Registered Nurse

Maintain clear, concise patient records and documentation adhering to national standards and Trust policies and procedures.

Obtain informed consent prior to giving care in accordance with Trust policies.

Provide information to other members of the Multi-disciplinary team on the care provided.

Undertake safe transfer/escort of patients between settings after appropriate training and delegation from the Registered Nurse.
Provide clinical care in accordance with the infection prevention and health and safety policies and procedures.

Maintain effective communication with patients, relatives and members of the multi-disciplinary team.
