An exciting Team opportunity has arisen for Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic (BME) Session worker to join our BAME services supporting adults (18-65) with complex mental health needs.
The successful candidate will need to be a friendly, enthusiastic, and robust individual with experience working for a BAME project or service.
The post holder will be a team member for the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation. To support the principles of recovery post will support Peckham Befrienders service users. The fundamental principles of recovery are embedded in Peckham Befrienders as we view people with mental health problems, like others, needing friends in their community with whom they can have an informal relationship based on mutual interest, equality, and respect. To support the growth of Peckham Befrienders (by acting as spokesperson) raising its profile within the local and wider communities.
Main duties of the job
Your role will involve supporting service users who attend Peckham Befrienders, (which is a BAME befriending service), at a twice-weekly [Tuesdays and Thursdays] drop-in session. Linking service users with befriender volunteers. To help in all aspects of the organising of the drop-in sessions which include light catering duties & other practical tasks. To support the Service Development Manager in giving profile to this service within the local and wider community. Linking Service Users with Befriender Volunteers, carrying out home & ward visits, and supporting a range of other activities.
• Ensure the atmosphere is welcoming, and respectful and encourage the full participation of clients and Befrienders
• Liase closely with Sojourner Truth Community Centre and St. Matthews Centre
• Helps with publicising the service
• Liase with Trust staff (and care teams) regarding any concerns about service users
• Ensure the safety of staff and users, review in supervision, and evaluated regularly.
• Work within established procedures for the involvement of volunteers in the project.
• Encourage the development of befriending relationships through observation, communication, and discussion
• Work within the code of conduct for befriending relationship
