Our Team

The Parking Technical team sits within the Economy, Planning & Transport directorate. The team is made up of eight officers, four Technicians, two Assistant Technicians and two Cash collectors. The team work together to maintain the city's 300 parking machines, maintaining the cities pay and display car parks, ensuring they are safe and accessible to the general public.

Your new role

Working within the Parking Technical section you will be responsible for the maintenance of parking machines and other associated equipment. This is a very varied role which will require you to work flexibly as you will be working outside of normal core hours on a rota basis, to include weekends and public holidays.

The role will also involve assisting the Signage Technician with installation of signage which may include manual handling duties. You will also be responsible for the safekeeping and accounting of keys and money as directed by the Parking Technical Team Leader. A uniform will be provided and must be worn at all times whilst on duty.

What you'll need to succeed

You will be acquainted with working with street furniture i.e. signs/parking machines/phone boxes or similar and hold a G39 electric safety certificate or equivalent; or willing to undertake training to achieve G39 certification

You will demonstrate experience of maintaining machinery (i.e. parking machines, fax machines or similar). You will also have a background in mechanical/electrical engineering (low voltage) and knowledge of computer programming, xml files and scripts would be advantageous.

You will have the ability to carry out physical duties involved in the post such as moving parking machines/climbing ladders/installing signage. You will be able to work from a height to enable you to climb ladders/install signage etc.

You will be someone who has excellent interpersonal and customer service skills as you will be communicating with both internal and external customers. You will also have a proactive attitude to team working and be willing to support your colleagues as required. It is also essential that you have a full driving license as you will be required to drive council vehicles.
