Summary


The post holder will be a member of Immunisation team and work alongside the Immunisation Team Leader providing professional support and leadership to team members. The role combines both managerial and clinical elements; you will provide day to day management for the immunisation team whilst supporting the delivery of the national childhood immunisation programme across the Mersey Care Footprint. You will also provide expert advice to the wider 0 – 19 children’s nursing teams in addition to practice nurses, parents, carers, and children and young people advising about immunisations.



Operational management of the Immunisation team including personal development reviews, supervision, assist with recruitment, selection, induction and retention of staff. You will be involved in education and clinical practice development, including providing training to Mersey Care Staff and be involved in audit and policy reviews as required. You will be responsible for the organisation, smooth running and administration of the nurse led immunisation sessions across the wide variety of venues that are utilised. You will also be active in the follow up of non-immunised children/ defaulters; providing information, advice and updating data as required, liaising closely with relevant health professionals, and making appropriate arrangements or referrals. To take the lead on immunisation training courses, support competency building of new immunisers and to act as an expert resource for health professionals and parents. Assist with any local & national immunisation campaigns including outbreaks.

1. Responsible for the provision of appropriate, high-quality care to children and young people.

17. Participate in the development, implementation, and monitoring of the clinical team canvas.
18. Provide information to the team leader on staff and patient/client activity as requested, to enable the effective management of the service
19. Support the team leader in the implementation of practice development, improvement and service modernisation initiatives.
20. Support the team leader by monitoring and recording sickness and absence, capability and other issues within the team, reporting them as soon as possible
21. In conjunction with others, provide day-to-day supervision and support for the team.
22. Support the team leader in providing induction to the local working environment, clinical services and policies for new team members
23. Undertake personal development plans with other members of the team, as delegated
24. Act as an authorised signatory for mileage and timecards for submission
25. To be responsible and accountable for your own work including the management of patients that are in your team
26. To perform clinical and environmental risk assessments to optimise the health and safety of patients and staff in a variety of settings
27. To be responsible for the clinical assessment of children requiring immunisation which includes planning, administration, education and offering appropriate support and guidance to parents/carers
28. To coordinate the ordering of vaccines, equipment and their safe storage by support staff, ensuring emergency equipment/ drugs are in date and easily accessible
29. To liaise with GPs to obtain accurate immunisation histories from their records, to support planning and ensure accurate and up to date patient records
30. To be a resource providing professional expert advice regarding immunisations to peers, colleagues, GPs, parents and carers
31. To be able to seek further specialist advice and act upon if appropriate or to signpost as required
32. To be competent and confident in offering a nurse-led immunisation service working mostly under the legal framework of Patient Group Directions: Routine Child Immunisations School based immunisations Fluenz
33. Maintains competency in emergency treatment (faints/ anaphylaxis) and ensures access to emergency equipment
34. Participate in individual and group supervision.
35. Monitor record keeping within the team and inform the team leader of any concerns or incidents
36. Support the training and development of team members who need to improve on the level of patient care This includes record keeping and improving clinical competency.
37. Support the implementation of any initiatives to improve quality of care within the clinical governance
38. Participate in patient satisfaction reporting to improve patient care
39. Work with the team leader to ensure achievement of your own personal development
40. Maintain up to date knowledge and competence in line with professional and service requirements and demonstrate critical thinking, decision-making and reflective skills to ensure own professional registration
41. Support the Team Leader in creating an environment in which learning, and practice development is fostered, evaluated and implemented
42. Facilitate effective learning within the area of practice for all students and new staff
43. Facilitate pre and post registration student placements within the service
44. Participation in clinical audits and research, as required
45. The post holder shall as necessary provide cover for and undertake duties of absent colleagues.
