Summary
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Occupational Therapist, to expand their professional skills and experience in our Older Adults CMHT in Bromley. The ideal Occupational Therapist will have recent experience working in Community Mental Health setting including care co-ordination.
The Older Adults Community Mental Health Team in Bromley offers a specialist multi-disciplinary service for people with mental health needs. The team forms part of a planned and integrated whole system approach to care that is delivered in conjunction with in-patient, crisis and specialist services. You will join a highly experienced multi-disciplinary team and work closely together to ensure smooth and seamless transitions between mental health services. By providing specialist assessment and treatment and commissioning social support, the overarching principle of the service is to enable older people to live independently in the community for as long as possible. Where this is no longer possible, we aim to continue to support people by working in partnership with provider agencies.
The post holder will work alongside other OT colleague and provide specialist Occupational Therapy assessment and intervention. You will be responsible for providing supervision for support staff within the team and contribute to the development of both the occupational therapy and team pathways.
The post holder will ne able to work independently and autonomously within the community mental health team (CMHT), providing specialist Occupational Therapy (OT) assessment and evidence based interventions. The Clinical Specialist OT will also contribute to generic teamwork, including care co-ordination of a defined number of service users. The post holder will be actively involved in the older peoples’ Occupational Therapy services, the Directorate, and Trust wide, contributing to and leading on service development initiatives. The post holder will work as an integral part of the CMHT responding to the needs of the service and its stakeholders and taking a leading role in the day to day running of the OT service in the team, in collaboration with other OT colleagues. The post holder will also be required to demonstrate leadership skills, and proactively develop the OT service within the team through participating in auditing and ensuring service delivery is based on best practice.

• To manage a clinical caseload
• To work as an integral member of the MDT, including developing skills as a Safeguarding Adults Manager or attending relevant panels.
• To lead on the development of evidence-based OT practice
• To provide OT specific assessment & interventions via groups & individual work related to:
- Occupational performance
- Occupational needs
• To work with a small, complex caseload as care co-ordinator (up to 30% of caseload).
• To lead on OT service development within the CMHT as guided by the Directorate Lead. This may include promotion of the profession, managing referral systems, implementing directorate agreed pathways and using outcome measures to demonstrate the effectiveness of Occupational Therapy interventions.
• To actively support the team leader of the CMHT in the overall development of the CMHT team and to take a lead with complex issues such as those relating to safeguarding or case management.
• To lead/participate in research/audit activities
• Contribute to and carry out risk assessment & risk management plans
• To oversee and provide specialist OT interventions and consultation to the MDT, looking at innovation and integrating new ways of working, within evidence-based frameworks.
• To work independently without direct supervision
• To be an OT specialist and have in-depth knowledge of specialist OT assessment & interventions for the client group.
• To be able to provide advanced clinical assessment and adapt practice to suit the needs of the service users, many of whom may have acute, complex and/or chronic presentations.
• To provide clinical support and leadership for junior staff, and OT students on fieldwork placement
• To contribute to the quality improvement and development of the Trust wide OT service
• To undertake identified generic responsibilities for an agreed percentage of time
• To assist with Directorate investigations and service reviews as required/delegated by Service Manager and Lead OT.
• To follow an agreed Job Plan
• To adhere to Trust’s requirements for management of violence training relevant to clinical area
