Summary


We have an exciting opportunity for midwives passionate about physiological birth to join our fabulous birth centre team.

To provide woman and babies with high quality, safe midwifery care during childbirth. The care will be evidence based and holistic in meeting women’s needs in a variety of practice settings.

In the absence of a Band 7 Team Leader, lead the team and manage the workload either in the community or in the unit.

Kingston Maternity is a popular service with approximately 4600 births per annum, and approximately 15% of these occur on the Birth Centre. The most recent National Maternity Survey in 2021 rated Kingston in the Top 5 best performing maternity services in London. Our staffs are positive about the hospital and the services offered to women and their families.

Our birth centre rooms have birthing couches and pools, and our team are skilled in aromatherapy, and optimal birth positioning. We promote a philosophy of holistic, woman-centred care in a home from-home environment, delivered by a dedicated team of passionate midwives with a vision to ensure a safe, calm and unique birthing experience.

Kingston maternity is proud of its strong multi-disciplinary (MDT) culture. We provide a well evaluated, in-house MDT programmes and staff can attend external study days or enrol for academic modules at our local higher education institutes.

Some of the main duties of the job are to provide woman and babies with high quality, safe midwifery care during childbirth. The care will be evidence based and holistic in meeting women’s needs in a variety of practice settings. In the absence of a Band 7 Team Leader, lead the team and manage the workload either in the community or in the unit.

Women’s choice is one of our drivers, which has resulted in a recent substantial revision in the criteria for admission to birth centre. Safety is our priority and together with women we make clear birth preference plans.

Our service is funded to a ratio of 1 midwife to 24 women, enabling high quality midwifery focused care to be provided. The birth centre team, along with our consultant midwife, also work closely with the homebirth team, in addition to our very successful breech service, where we participate in the OptiBreech study.
