Summary

The Growth Company’s (GC) Innovate UK Business Growth team have an exciting new opportunity for Senior Innovation & Growth Specialist to deliver in-depth specialist business and innovation growth advice to a portfolio of ambitious business owners and senior managers of primarily Northwest based innovative businesses that are aiming to achieve growth in the UK and internationally, particularly, but not exclusively through new product/service development.

Innovate UK Business Growth is a key part of the UK innovation agency’s deep investment in the pioneering businesses that drive economic growth. It is a publicly funded service available to all high potential small to medium sized innovation-driven companies, including Innovate UK grant winners.

We work closely with leadership teams to create the conditions for each business to succeed and bring the benefits of their innovation to national and international audiences; Since 2015 we have been empowering clients to grow and scale their businesses through actionable advice, access to vital resources and opportunities to enhance their abilities.

Your journey will usually start with our national enquiry gateway, which receives enquiries from innovative businesses, connecting them to their local innovation and growth specialist if appropriate. Our national enquiry team can also offer additional support in areas such as market research/intelligence insights, providing you with key information about current regulation and product/service conformity in the UK, EU or worldwide.

Key Responsibilities:

Identify innovative businesses with the best growth potential. Handle leads and enquiries to ascertain suitability for Innovation & Growth support and services. Create leads, convert and deliver services and advice to clients to meet your individual and the team’s targets. Making appropriate and required records on the relevant systems, reports and documentation to comply with Innovate UK requirements. Account manage a portfolio of clients and deliver bespoke support packages by working with companies one-to-one.
Making sure clients are personally introduced to those services identified as appropriate (internal and external) and monitor the delivery of these services to support the clients strategy and/or objectives and address those barriers to growth identified.
Ensure that the monitoring and collection of output and impacts data is undertaken throughout the project and at the conclusion of each individual project in-line with funders’ requirements.
Make sure client enquiries and partner referrals are correctly recorded on relevant CRMs and associated service specific data capturing systems, updating progress against agreed actions as plans progress and ensure all administration is completed in timely manner against deadlines and is checked for accuracy.
Act as a credible strategic coach and mentor to client businesses to identify them and support them in developing a growth strategy and their own long term innovative operations and help them develop new markets making use of Innovate UK and other support. The range of clients will be diverse from small start-up SMEs to larger mid-sized businesses to facilitate a holistic analysis of the business to gain an in-depth understanding of its current performance and potential for growth. To assist clients to prioritise issues and identify potential courses of action. Provide robust strategic advice to companies by establishing facts, weighing up pros and cons, examining consequences, and then deliver on the agreed action plans.

Able to express ideas clearly, both verbally, face-to-face, by telephone, and in written communications and actively listen to others logically and accurately and network.
Skills Required:

Significant experience of sector(s)/business experience in the private sector, including at a senior management or Director level. Across all sectors, with product/service design and development expertise from conception to commercialisation.
At least degree level business education, or degree level qualification with a management body or the relevant business experience to match those.
Proven track record in managing the range of business issues associated with periods of business growth.
Proven track record in working effectively in a professional team/s.
Professional experience and approach to managing and delivering business assessment, advice, and development.
Has technical knowledge in the key areas of product or process development and/or science.
Knowledge and understanding of the key national, sub-regional and local organisations and their role in supporting economic development and specifically business growth.
Understanding of customer focused approach of working with businesses to foster engagement and encourage commitment to working towards economic development.
