Dawson Downie Lamont design and manufacture Reciprocating Pumps in accordance with API 674 and the Hydraulic Institute Standard for the oil & gas, petrochemical and marine industries worldwide.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Design Engineer to join the current Dawson Downie Lamont Design / Engineering team as part of the FTV Proclad UK Group of companies.
You will be involved in all aspects of the DDL product portfolio production from the engineering & design, through the manufacture to the assembly & testing.
The main focus of the role will be to apply a technical knowledge to the present and future pump portfolio producing all design, material & engineering related documents, including Detail drawings, Bills of Materials, Product Manuals, Visual Engineering Masters, Visual Part Maintenance, Part ID to Visual Customer Order, Sales / After Sales Schematics & animations.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Engineering / Design of new & existing products, in-line with Company Procedures & Control Systems.
• Develop conceptual designs into detailed 3d models and engineering drawings.
• Working with external manufacturing partners
• Consult with colleagues during design stages to ensure coordination and functionality of design.
• Provide solutions to manufacturing and assembly issues by aiding in the resolution of Technical and Production Queries
• Work to requirements outlined in the design brief.
• Produce technical specifications and standard operating procedures as well as manuals.
• Work to any international standards and regulations that the system must comply with.
• Reporting of technical progress and issues to line management in respect to project deadlines.
• Creating specifications and processes inside an ERP system to aid in production.
• Prepare Sales Department Schematics / Animations for Customer enquiries and for Sales and Marketing requirements.
• To contribute with detail and overall costing of existing and future product portfolio.
• To design and specify machine shop fixturing, tooling & procedures as applied to DDL product.

Skills, Experience and Knowledge required:

• HND (or higher) qualified, with experience in a similar discipline.
• Working knowledge of API 674 and the Hydraulic Institute Standard advantageous.
• Sound knowledge of PTC Creo and the use of Generics / Family tables & parametric 3d modelling. Equivalent CAD packages such as SolidWorks, SolidEdge etc. may be considered.
• Experience designing components for manufacture with / using CNC milling and turning machines.
• Experience designing castings beneficial.
• Experience in producing detailed Engineering drawings for manufacture and an understanding of Geometric Tolerancing and Dimensioning.
• A sound working knowledge of material application and specification with particular emphasis on small to medium sized product-based Engineering utilising cast irons, cast steels, steels and metallic bearing materials.
• Ability to produce professional Technical and Sales / After Sales documentation.
• Previous experience with ERP systems, Visual being ideal, would be an advantage.
• Proficient with Microsoft office tools.
• Forward thinking and practical you will be skilled in building strong working partnerships both internally and externally with the ability to oversee projects to a conclusion.
• Experience is producing high quality Renders and Animations in “Keyshot” or similar is advantageous.

Flexibility:
To delivery services effectively, a degree of flexibility is needed, and the post holder may be required to perform work not specifically referred to above. You will also be required to be involved in FTV Proclad UK Group based Product Design / Engineering tasks as requirements arise.
