Summary

Job Title: Biomedical Scientist Grade: Band 5/6 Ward/Dept: Haematology and Transfusion Trust: Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust Location: Stoke Mandeville Hospital Hours: 37.5 hours ,24/7 service delivered via shift pattern once inducted / trained. Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust (BHT) is an integrated provider of acute hospital and community services for people living in Buckinghamshire and the surrounding area. The Blood Sciences Department analyses some 2500 samples / 25000 tests per day, producing accurate, reliable results in a timely fashion for clinical diagnosis and patient welfare. The service is provided to all Hospital Wards and departments, GPs, Clinics and Private Hospitals across central and south Buckinghamshire and beyond. The Central laboratory is at Stoke Mandeville Hospital with a Satellite laboratory at Wycombe Hospital. Staffs are expected to be deployed at either site as required by the service. Other Hospitals served are Amersham, Buckingham, Chalfont & Gerrards Cross, Marlow and Thame. Responsibilities for this role include: As a Specialist BMS the post holder is responsible for processing laboratory tests on patient samples in 1 of 4 sub-sections of the laboratory in rotation. They must be able to apply the latest scientific knowledge coupled with the most up to date scientific methods. They must be able to use and carry out routine maintenance and performance checks on complex and expensive analysers accurately and safely. They will work as a valued member of a team able to function with minimum supervision deputising for senior staff as appropriate. They will support and participate in the Quality Management system. They will take responsibility for designated areas according to their specialist knowledge and requirements of the Department. Sub-sections are: Central sample reception: Receiving and preparing multi-discipline samples for analysis in Biochemistry, Haematology, Immunology and Virology Automated Laboratory: Complex analysers for routine Biochemistry and Immunoassays, Haematology and Coagulation Manual: Specialist and manual / semi-automated analytical Biochemistry, Haematology, Immunology, Molecular and Virology. Transfusion: Blood grouping, blood product compatibility and associated blood stock management To be successful in applying for this role you will need: Registration with the Health Professions Council as a Biomedical Scientist.
