Currently, our team consists of 18 general radiologists with various subspecialties, including breast, upper/lower GI, musculoskeletal, urology, paediatrics and more. Radiology is located in the main BTH site and offers CT, MRI, US, PF, NM, DEXA Mammography and non-vascular intervention.
Our refurbishment of the Central Radiology department in early 2021 has led to a cutting-edge diagnostic department, with a future-proofed capital replacement programme in place. We operate the latest technology in terms of our PACS solution with Agfa Enterprise Imaging which was upgraded in December 2019 across our entire estate. Along with our ambitious plans for the future, we are also investing in artificial intelligence solutions within our department.
The clinical commitments of this post will include responsibility for provision of all aspects of a Diagnostic Radiology Service at Blackpool Teaching Hospital (BTH), including CT, MRI, Plain Film, NM, and Ultrasound. An interest in Urology imaging, and and interest and competence in Interventional Radiology procedures (non-vascular) is essential.
There may also be an occasion a requirement to provide diagnostic reports on patients at CDC sites and community hospitals. At present we operate a “Radiologist of the Day” system, but this is under review, particularly as we gain more consultants within the department. The aim of the department is to become more efficient and to minimise interruptions to individual consultants as much as possible.
As one of the United Kingdom's largest coastal resort, Blackpool has plenty to offer its residents- it's not just a good place to work, it's a great place to live. It offers several scenic cycling routes round our local parks and across the surrounding countryside, as well as boasting panoramic views of the coast on its picturesque Promenade. Further afield, Blackpool also benefits from less than three-hour connections via rail to Edinburgh in the north and London in the south.
