Location: Scunthorpe – DN16 area.
Rate of pay: £12.39
Hours: 36hrs available - 18hrs per week with each disabled person, and possibly more hours to cover sickness, holiday and taking them out at weekends when two PAs needed.
Days: To be negotiated, but likely to be Monday, Thursday & Friday.
Vacancies: 1 or 2 PAs.
Further information: Female Personal Assistants are required to support a brother and sister in Scunthorpe; he is 23yrs old and she is 21yrs old. They both have Learning Difficulties, autism and communication difficulties.
The PA will be required to support the two people to prepare all meals and drinks, support with medication management and to supervise them as they have limited awareness of personal safety.
The young man communicates verbally and uses Makaton. He needs things planning. He will need to be prompted to eat at appropriate times. He also needs prompts to have a shower. He needs assistance to get dressed as he will not choose weather appropriate clothes. He enjoys swimming, using his ipad, animals, the cinema, the theatre, dancing and bowling. He also likes walking in the woods, drumming and exercise classes.
The young woman requires prompting to maintain her engagement when communicating and she can become anxious. She needs everything to be planned. She can dress herself, but needs support with zips and ensuring clothes are on the right way round and are weather appropriate. She needs prompting and assisting to take a bath or shower. She requires support with toileting. She also communicates both verbally and using Makaton. She likes bowling, the gym, dancing, walking in the woods, animals, using her ipad and theatre and cinema.
Applicants should have a positive attitude towards young disabled people and need to be able to keep up with them both and motivate them. There may be times when the PA will be with only one person and other times where they are with both of them.
Appropriate training and/or instruction will be given. Non-smoker preferred. Car driver with access to own vehicle preferred.
Owing to the nature of this position, any offer of employment will be subject to a satisfactory checking report from the Disclosure and Barring Service, the cost of which will be met by the local authority.
