Summary

This role involves a duty to safeguard all young people residing within accommodation provided by Equipped4Life (E4L). The role is to produce and deliver key support to young people in care aged 16 -21 years old in semi-independent homes staffed 24 hours a day. The role involves supporting young- people on and off site.

Caseworkers are required to casework up to 5 young people depending on their level of need, developing their support plans, structuring their key work/support sessions and feed into their
pathway plans.

Caseworkers are required to work with Support staff to plan support on a weekly basis and ensure support is being delivered effectively whilst ensuring YP support hours are being fulfilled

All key work sessions and delivery of support are based around E4L modules of support such as:

▪ Budgeting money/money management, food and essential shopping and administering a
weekly subsistence allowance.
▪ Encourage the young person to engage and take part in positive activities within the
community, building on healthy relationships and developing positive social networks.
▪ Encourage and support the young person in accessing education, training or employment.
Including CV writing, application process and interview preparation.
▪ To undertake cleaning, cooking, washing up, laundry duties and other related activities
ensuring young people are involved as much as possible, to maintain a clean and safe environment.
▪ To assist/enable young people to maintain high standards of health care and personal hygiene.
▪ To encourage young people to develop an understanding of their own self-worth,
confidence and identity.
▪ To encourage young people to develop alternative ways of dealing with anger and othecomplex behavioural issues
▪ To manage and or defuse challenging (misunderstood) behaviour
▪ Carry out research or undertake training, to gain an understanding of the needs of the young people you will be supporting.
▪ To provide support and meet the basic needs of young people ensuring that personal dignity and rights are respected at all times.
▪ Work with your manager, Support staff and the young person to develop a structured programme of key work sessions based upon the young person’s individual support needs and focussed on developing their self- confidence and esteem.
▪ Promote safe, consistent and understandable boundaries with the young person in
conjunction with a 'Young Person’s Agreement’.
▪ Provide a clear outline of support work to be delivered by yourself and Support Workers according to the key work system.
▪ Maintain accurate record/ log keeping.
▪ Maintain receipts for all expenditure
▪ To help maintain the cleanliness and hygiene of the accommodation.
▪ Prepare high standard weekly/monthly progress reports regarding the young person’s progress which are submitted to the placing authority.
▪ Update the E4L development tool on a weekly basis in conjunction with the weekly/monthly reports.
▪ Work in partnership with other agencies and support the young people to attend meetings with other professionals. You will be required to attend admission and planning meetings; and attend Looked After Children’s Reviews ensuring all relevant paperwork is complete.
▪ Complete notes and or meeting minutes to all external meetings attended.
▪ Maintain confidentiality of young people and report any concerns or disclosures regarding a young person’s welfare to your line manager.
▪ Attend staff meetings and training sessions as and when required. Chair staff meetings if necessary
▪ Take part and attend structured supervision sessions every 4 weeks.
▪ Provide constructive advice and support to colleagues with regards to your key young people.
▪ Knowledge of safeguarding issues and working in partnership.
▪ To have the ability to liaise regularly with social services and outside agencies in relation to young people.
▪ To represent E4L in a positive manner at internal/external events.
▪ To manage own time and tasks effectively i.e. complete all required tasks for each shift. To give a thorough handover at the end of each shift.
▪ Undertake other duties as required by management, and commensurate with the post.

CASE WORKER: PERSON SPECIFICATION

ESSENTIAL:
▪ At least 6 months experience of working with children and or Young People with complex or behavioural needs
▪ Experience of working individually and within a team
▪ Experience of case work
▪ Experience of report writing experience and administrative ability
▪ Knowledge and experience using Microsoft
▪ Be safeguard trained
▪ Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service Certificate (DBS) covering Children & Adults – to be arranged prior to commencing employment with E4L.
▪ Ability to develop creative key work sessions and support to promote independent living skills and positive relationships.
▪ Possess effective oral and written communication skills
▪ Able to work flexibly between 9am – 9pm weekdays and occasional Saturday or Sunday as required.
▪ A minimum of 3 weekdays is required.
