The Endoscopy Unit based at North Cambridgeshire Hospital, in Wisbech, is looking for a keen and motivated Band 2 Endoscopy Healthcare Assistant to join our dedicated, hardworking and friendly team.

The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, motivated and committed to give high quality nursing care in this specialist diagnostic area of nursing. You need to have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, to assist with the efficient and effective organisation of the department and assist with the delivery of endoscope decontamination.

We aim to provide a dedicated, high quality diagnostic endoscopy service giving efficient, effective and patient-centred care.

We deliver a service of care and support based on current knowledge and research based practice, giving patients the freedom to discuss their treatment in privacy with a registered nurse who has had appropriate education and training.

The service will be constantly monitored by a clinical audit system so that the quality of care may be measured, good practice recognised and improvements initiated.



Assist in the movement and transfer of patients to and from wards and departments. Accept patients into the department using electronic records, checking paperwork and documentation as per policy/procedure. Assist in the movement and transfer of patients within the clinical area.

Assist with the positioning of patients onto trolleys or theatre tables, ensuring the patients comfort and safety during endoscopy procedures.

Assist with the preparation of the endoscopy room/ recovery area with necessary equipment and supplies for the individual case or lists. Process endoscopes through decontamination process in accordance with local and National guidelines.

Assist endoscopy staff in the handling of specimens according to departmental standards. Comply with departmental protocols regarding the handling, decontamination and dispatch of specimens to the appropriate laboratory.

Assist endoscopy staff in the procedure room with direct care and maintenance of the patient airway during gastroscopy procedures within boundaries of role.

Obtain venous blood samples from patients as required and requested.

Assist endoscopy staff in circulating duties within the boundaries of the role.

Assist with the direct care of the patient in endoscopy Recovery.

Ensure that records of patient care are accurately recorded.

Use equipment in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions and report any faults immediately.
