Summary
The Cardiac & Thoracic CNS will:
· Monitor the patient’s progress along the patient pathway
· Identify and manage any barriers to their progress to surgery
· Carry out Pre-Assessment Clinics
· Identify, order and review investigations
· Create appropriate treatment plans to prepare patients for surgery
· Refer to other clinicians (as required)
· Provide education & support
· Act as a point of contact for patients and their next of kin
We are looking for a Junior Nurse Specialist Nurse for Cardiac & Thoracic Surgery to join St George’s. The post holder will co-ordinate the patient pathway from referral to surgery for patients on the elective and urgent pathways, in close collaboration with the multidisciplinary team and thoracic clinical nurse specialist team.
The post holder will work closely within the cardiac & thoracic surgical team using their specialist knowledge and expertise in perioperative thoracic care.
They will support colleagues in the effective management of patients in their specialist area who require a high level of judgement, discretion and decision making within an inpatient or outpatient setting. The post-holder will provide education and training to patients, carers, and healthcare professionals.
With nearly 9,000 dedicated staff caring for patients around the clock, they are the largest healthcare provider in southwest London.
Their main site, St George’s Hospital in Tooting – one of the country’s principal teaching hospitals – is shared with St George’s, University of London, which trains medical students and carries out advanced medical research. St George’s Hospital also hosts the St George’s, University of London and Kingston University Faculty of Health and Social Care Sciences, which is responsible for training a wide range of healthcare professionals from across the region.
As well as acute hospital services, they provide a wide variety of specialist care and a full range of community services to patients of all ages following integration with Community Services Wandsworth in 2010.
