Summary
The Newham Occupational Therapy Department are pleased to share an exciting opening to join our community mental health services as the Deputy Lead for community Occupational Therapy, following our current post holder moving on to a new role within ELFT.
Occupational Therapy is a core role in the Community Recovery Teams, and well established within the service. The primary focus of this role is direct clinical through individual and group OT interventions, alongside responsibility to oversee the OT provision for one Community Recovery Team (North). Support and supervision for senior OT and support staff will be provided by the post holder to ensure that the OT resource is directed effectively and in line with the needs of the diverse Newham community. The post offers leadership opportunities within the wider Newham OT department, including scope for ongoing service improvement and team development. The candidate would have the support and supervision of the Community Lead for Occupational Therapy, and can expect to form close working relationships with the Operational Lead, seniors, and MDT colleagues within Community Recovery Team North.
This post would be suited to an experienced mental health Occupational Therapist who is committed to the values of the Recovery model, and the Community Mental Health Transformation. Leadership: To play a lead role as part of the integrated Occupational Therapy team, operating across the community and inpatient settings, with a particular focus on ensuring the Community Mental Health OT Service delivers its goals.
To lead on community mental health OT provision for one CRT (North or South); to liaise with the Community Lead OT (who will lead the other CRT) on borough-wide provision, smooth operation of the pathway, including links with external agencies, appropriate prioritisation and use of resources. To play a significant role in community service development and quality improvement. Deputise for the community lead in their absence.
Clinical: To primarily provide an Occupational Therapy Service, for community mental health service users of the CRT. In addition to provide OT input for inpatient service users where OT intervention is likely to continue post admission and/or need is complex; to provide sessional brief input to community mental health service users as appropriate.
The role has particular focus on service users’ recovery and social inclusion goals, via both individual and group work. There are no care-co-ordination responsibilities, but in addition to service user outcomes and satisfaction, the success of the post-holder will be measured by the degree to which OT input facilitates the wider service in moving service users on from secondary mental health care.
