A fantastic secondment opportunity has arisen for a highly skilled, inspirational and dynamic midwife, with a strong background in maternity and clinical governance and assurance. This is a perfect developmental opportunity for someone who wishes to progress and enhance their knowledge and skills further.

As Head of Maternity Governance and Assurance, you will work collaboratively with the Director of Midwifery and Gynaecology Nursing (DOM) in reviewing and monitoring seamless clinical governance pathways, which fosters multidisciplinary working across the directorate. This includes working closely and collaboratively with the Women’s Services Management team to ensure effective communications systems are in place for shared learning that optimises excellent standards of care and compliance with national and local standards.

An integral part of the role will be working in conjunction with the DOM to support the implementation, delivery and compliance to the Maternity Incentive Scheme and the 10 Maternity Safety Actions as referenced in Better Births and the Long-Term Plan, using expert clinical knowledge, senior experience to influence key stakeholders.

This is a professional lead role working at both operational and strategic level to ensure external and internal quality and safety systems are in place. The postholder will demonstrate enthusiasm and commitment to improving patient safety and quality initiatives and deliver this with a kindness and compassion.

Provide strong professional, clinical, and managerial leadership and promote a proactive approach to clinical governance, patient safety and risk management.

Initiate strategies to ensure departmental and clinical governance requirements are met and ensure delivery of a high-quality service.

Have the courage to initiate and persevere in delivering excellent woman and family centred care.

Lead to better outcomes for women, families and local populations through systematic, evidence-based approaches that enable both improvement and transformation.

Lead on the thematic review of maternity quality intelligence, including serious incidents to enable learning to be applied across the service and LMNS footprint.

Have the ability to inspire and lead others to meet national and local requirements.

Act as a champion for maternity and midwifery building strong teams within the unit and the local and regional network

Lead on the co-ordination of risk management in Women’s services including investigating and taking corrective actions, referring, and escalating as appropriate, serious incidents, accidents and complaints, in accordance with Trust policies and procedures and in collaboration with the Trust Governance Team.
