The Head of Engineering will report into the Business Line Director and will provide leadership to the engineering project/ product delivery within their business line. They will define and implement a strategy and operational plan ensuring its execution through a clear and communicated business plan, this will support the overall business line. Support business growth through world leading engineering that sees us continue to grow our portfolio of products and services to our customers.

This role will partner with all functions within the Business Line as well as a dotted line into Group Operations to ensure consistency of approach, process and governance when considering the wider group strategy and how we support our customers to the best of our ability.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading the progressive development of our product offering, ensuring it anticipates and meets current and future customer requirements to drive a differentiated and competitive market solution.
  • Providing strong and inspirational leadership to the Engineering teams as they deliver against programmes/ customer products.
  • Hold teams to account against project/ product schedules and budgeted costs.
  • Ensure planning activity is embedded as a discipline within the engineering teams to drive efficiency.
  • Drive a commercial approach to engineering within the business line and ensure the bid inputs for engineering take account of the 'go to market' strategy.
  • To develop and deliver the business line Engineering strategy, meeting existing business requirements and future growth/ development.
  • The interface with the customer/ Primes on all engineering matters within the business line, keeping abreast of engineering advancements and new technology as a means to engagement and building out future opportunities.

  • Partnership with Group Engineering Director on future pipeline and emerging technology/ engineering solutions.
  • Lead, motivate and engage a diverse team of Engineers from varying disciplines throughout the employee lifecycle
  • Responsible for the integrity and regulatory compliance of our engineering solutions whilst achieving consistent on-time delivery.
  • Responsible for leading a team in the innovative design of products/services to meet customer and business needs .
  • Develop and agree budgets in line with the business planning cycle and that budgets are achieved
  • Lead on business change and transformation
  • Lead/sponsor programmes/projects and provide specialist advice/guidance to a portfolio of programmes/projects identifying interdependencies and improvements
  • Ensure effective resource planning, in partnership with the Engineering shared service, to meet customer programme delivery and to ensure that utilisation is effectively managed
  • Partner with stakeholders both within the business line, other business lines and the Group Operations alongside customer relationships

  • Full product lifecycle experience along with solid understanding of a breadth of engineering disciplines
  • An understanding of financial management and wider management principles and techniques
  • The ability to understand complex problems
  • Insights into new engineering technologies
  • Experience of working at a Head of or equivalent level within a matrix organisation
  • Proven experience of building and leading teams in a product manufacturing environment
  • Analytical and detail orientated used to working with data to influence business decisions
  • Experience of new and innovative Engineering process and digital technology
  • Experience in defining and implementing an Engineering strategy
  • Experience of partnering with a range of internal and external stakeholders and clients
