Summary

You are invited to apply for a Clinical Teaching Fellow post within our Paediatric Service, developing an interest and experience in education and delivering a teaching programme to MBBS undergraduate students from both UCL, a world class institution, and St Georges medical school in the Caribbean.

The clinical component will be conducted on both the general paediatric area (general paediatric ward, paediatric assessment unit, paediatric A&E and outpatients) and the neonatal unit, a high functioning level 2 unit. You will be joining a award winning paediatric department, winner of the PAFTA Training Unit of the year 2024. Although a busy District General Hospital, we score highly in our consultant support of junior colleagues, and we are also a tertiary sickle cell unit and a POSCU.

Successful applicant will be allocated 50% of their working time to establish skills and develop the curriculum and resources to deliver education to the undergraduates. As a part of the education team, you will develop a portfolio of paediatric teaching resources, attain enhanced teaching & feedback techniques, lead curriculum & timetable planning, and support Trust wide undergraduate teaching activities.

Within the Paediatric department, you will help plan educational activities, organise students’ timetables, lead weekly teaching sessions- including simulation & mock OSCEs, whilst providing supervision & pastoral support to optimise students’ learning. Additionally, as NMUH is part of UCL Medical School’s main clinical campus (BMX campus), in joint alliance with Barnet Hospital, you will be joining the BMX team of clinical teaching fellows and our trust’s undergraduate medical education faculty (winner of the UCLMS Excellence in Medical Education Award 2023) in the development and delivery of BMX campus & university- wide educational initiatives including the Clinical and Professional Skills Assessments, formerly known as OSCEs.

The post is equivalent to other paediatric registrars including long day and night shifts. Alongside working in the general paediatric department and neonatal unit there will be opportunities to develop skills and gain experience in paediatric Allergy, Asthma, Gastro, Inf. Diseases, Endocrine, Diabetes, Cardiology, & Renal medicine.

North Mid is part of North Central London integrated care system – consisting of the NHS and Local authority organisations in Camden, Islington, Barnet, Enfield and Haringey. As with other ICS’s, we are working increasingly closely with partners and indeed many of our financial and performance objectives are measured at this system level. Whilst all organisations remain as standalone, statutory bodies we have an ICS infrastructure for making shared decisions and agreeing shared approaches.

We are proud of our staff and want to ensure their training allows them to provide excellent clinical care. We are also a training unit for medical students from UCL and St George’s University Grenada, and for nursing and midwifery students from Middlesex and City Universities.
