Summary

A Vacancy at St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

• The post holder will support RPC's external clients to ensure the safety of patients, visitors and staff who come into contact with all forms of ionising radiations. The post holder’s role is to ensure that radiological equipment is comprehensively tested and operating optimally. There will also be a strong commitment to work with external clients on optimisation projects and provide hands on support for a wide range of radiation protection issues.
• To carry out routine radiation safety tests of X-ray equipment including general radiology, fluoroscopy, mammography, dental, CT and digital imaging equipment.
• Commissioning and critical examination of imaging equipment and assistance in the development of relevant procedures and protocols
for such testing.
• To assist the RPA and MPE with the assessment of compliance of radiology departments with legal requirements for radiation
safety.
• To assist the lead RPA and MPE with the following services:
• Assessing patient radiation doses for a range of radiological procedures
• Advice and hands on support for optimisation projects
• Provision of radiation protection specifications for new radiological imaging facilities
• Ensuring adequate radiation shielding of radiology rooms
• Investigation of radiation incidents and the provision of appropriate incident reports

Other RPA/MPE duties as required by the client to support the service level agreement.

The Radiological Protection Centre (RPC) at St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust acts as Radiation Protection Adviser (RPA),
Radioactive Waste Adviser (RWA), Medical Physics Expert (MPE) to a large number of healthcare organisations around the British Isles. It has
about 15 staff and has been established as one of the leading providers in the sector since 1985. Staff have the opportunity to travel extensively
and visit some of the best parts of the country. Flexible working patterns can be negotiated.
