Summary


The CWDT Division has an exciting opportunity for an exceptional and high performing Deputy Divisional Director of Operations to join the Divisional Management team.

The Division comprises 7 Clinical Directorates including Children's Services, Women's Services, Diagnostics (including breast services, clinical genetics and mortuary), Therapies, Outpatients, Critical Care and Pharmacy.

The role involves working closely with the Divisional Director of Operations and across the Division to oversee specific projects and improvements and performance as well as supporting the implementation of the Divisional strategy and day-to-day operational management of services within the Division.

The successful candidate will be a highly experienced NHS manager who is motivated and have proven experience of providing strong leadership and vision to services. We are looking for an enthusiastic individual who will relish the challenges ahead and have a passion for delivering high quality patient care.



The Deputy Director of Operations is responsible for:
• Acting as SRO for specified projects on behalf of the Divisional Director of Operations and Divisional triumvirate.
• To work with the Divisional Chair, Divisional Director of Nursing and Governance and Divisional Director of Operations to ensure all targets are met
• Overseeing, delivering and assuring on performance in the Division
• Developing and monitoring an annual plan for the Division covering all aspects of the Division’s work including quality, finance, activity, operational targets, service developments and capital investment.
• Leading on the development and implementation of the Division’s service improvement plan, supporting Directorates to deliver as appropriate.
• Supporting the Divisional Director of Operations in delivering the Trust’s strategy
• Supporting the Divisional Director of Operations and the Divisional triumvirate in delivering programmes of transformation across the Division
• Deputising for the Divisional Director of Operations when they are off site

Main Duties/Key Results Areas:
1. Leadership
• Support the Divisional Director of Operations (DDO) and Divisional Chair to develop and promote a clear vision and strategy for the Division that is consistent with national and local priorities and takes into account the requirements of patients, their families and carers, GPs and other agencies.
• Represent the interests of the Trust in negotiation with partnership organisations to achieve corporate and divisional objectives.
• Work to devolve management and decision-making and increase involvement of clinical staff.
• Contribute to the development of the overall Trust strategy and business plan.
• Ensure that service developments and business plans have the involvement and commitment of clinicians.
1. Service Delivery
• To lead on the planning round for the Division liaising with directorate and corporate colleagues.
• To lead on service improvement projects across the Division as delegated by the DDO
• To support the Directorates with the recovery from covid and embedding innovation and changes to service delivery into practice
• Support the Divisional Director of Nursing and Governance to ensure the implementation of agreed targets/objectives in order to deliver the Trust Clinical Governance agenda.
• To ensure the directorates are able to meet all national and local performance standards through the establishment of divisional performance objectives and management.
• On behalf of the DDO to ensure the Directorate teams utilise available performance information to facilitate the monitoring of performance and the opportunities for improvements, agreeing plans to improve service efficiency and quality.
• To ensure that the Equality & Diversity action plan is implemented within the Division.
• To oversee the planning and delivery of major capital projects within the Division.
1. Performance and Resource Management
• To support the DDO and Directorate teams to ensure that the Division meets its financial targets.
• To work with the Divisional Finance Manager to develop and sustain a culture that devolves operational budgetary responsibility within the Division.
• To support processes aimed at improving financial information and budgetary control.
• To agree activity levels and performance measures with corporate and directorate teams and support them to ensure the agreed activity levels are reached to achieve targets.
• To support the DDO to ensure that the Division meets its Access targets.
1. Communication
• To work with the Divisional triumvirate to develop a shared vision of service and to promote a culture within the Division whereby all staff are working together towards the achievement of Divisional and Trust objectives.
• To develop and maintain relationships using effective and pro-active communication mechanisms with staff maximising the opportunity for staff involvement.
• To develop excellent relationships with Clinicians to ensure that professional staff have an opportunity to influence the management, planning of and development of services within the Division.
• To develop effective partnerships with the other Divisions and corporate functions in order to develop the corporate strategy and operations of the Trust.
• To develop excellent relationships with all external stakeholders including commissioners and local providers, patients’ interest groups, the media and the local community.

• To participate in the Trust on call rota.
