We are looking for a motivated individual with excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills who is dedicated to working as part of our friendly team.

You will assist the manager, deputy manager and senior technical officers to provide a professional cost effective service to all wards and departments within the Trust, and to other organisations with whom supply arrangements have been agreed; and to provide such technical advice as these services require.

To assist the manager, deputy manager and senior technical officers to ensure the safe decontamination of re-usable medical devices from the Southend NHS Trust, Sterile Services Department and to assist with the management and education of all staff within that department.

You will work in close collaboration with other professionals e.g. Departmental Heads, Clinical Nurse Specialists and ward / department representatives to select best choice reusable medical devices required by clinical staff and their patients.

To assist the Senior Technical Officer (STO) in the day to day management and operation of washing, inspection and packing and sterilization areas.

To work in accordance with Departmental Policy and quality Management System to ensure compliance by other staff.

To apply standards to the reprocessing of reusable invasive medical devices, including disassembly, cleaning, disinfection, checking, assembly, sterilization, despatch and tracking in a controlled environment.

Assist with day to day management of Sterile Services when required; ensuring that all quality procedures and work instructions are adhered to.

To provide advice on reusable medical devices to users as required out of hours and at weekends.

To assist the STO’s in liaising with appropriate colleagues and interested users, on establishing reusable medical devices into sets and trays designed to meet their needs and re-viewing that content as appropriate and ensuring that the deputy manager has been informed of any change.

To ensure that all Trust policies and procedures are adhered to.

To supervise, organise and allocate work for less experienced/qualified staff out of hours and weekends.

Assist in the training and development of intermediate and junior Sterile Services assistants.

Assist in ensuring that planned reprocessing actions are delivered safely and effectively in a timely manner and understood by those undertaking them.

Assist with liaison with Facilities to ensure that capital equipment is repaired as soon as possible in the event of equipment failure.
